Contrary to popular belief, QQ is not a set of crying eyes. It actually originated with the advent of Warcraft II. On battlenet, you could press ALT+Q+Q to immediately exit the match and program. Thus the term "QQ" was to tell people to just quit because they are unskilled. The term later developed and lost it's origin and is usually mistaken as crying eyes. In contemporary gamer culture, QQ has become the mainstream emoticon for crying eyes, though it is still often used in it's traditional sense.

I bought TimeShift yesterday for $15 at Target and am already bored. I keep buying first person shooters for the 360 and either not playing them or not finishing them. They just don't hold my attention as much as they used to. Maybe my tastes are changing or it's cause I'm playing on a console and not a PC, but I could sit down and play Quake 2 back in the day for hours and hours then go ahead and start it again after I finished it.

With the exception of Bioshock, HL2 and F.E.A.R. (which I think was probably more of a "good for its time game"), I haven't had a good single player fps experience. Even those that I did enjoy, I have no desire to go back and play them again.

I probably won't touch TimeShift too much anymore so that's TimeShift, Condemned, and Turok that I've put little time into and probably won't finish. And Bionic Commando, Condemned 2, FEAR Files, and Dead Space that I bought and haven't even had the desire to play.

I think FPS's in general have to be merged with another genre like RPG's (Bioshock did a little of that, Fallout 3 a lot of that) for them to be better than average, otherwise it's a dying genre - there's just not enough content or customization single player wise to really warrant any lasting attention.

What's that got to do with anything being discussed here? Anyway, I think it's because a lot of FPS games are dumbed down for consoles, which is why they are less enjoyable for the PC.

i think its more because the FPS genre has been oversaturized the past decade. while some games do get simplified menu systems and such for consoles, saying that a game like Q2 or PerfectDark is more complex than FPSs of late is nonsense.

No shit. It was still a completely random topic change. Maybe we should start talking about how to do flower arrangements now instead? :dork:

Well, I do think consoles are at least somewhat to blame - I believe console owners are more apt to embrace and celebrate mediocrity. Look at Halo for instance, the holy grail of FPS's on consoles, it's really just a good definition of run-of-the-mill-ordinary.

Granted Halo isn't the most amazing game ever these days, but you would have to be a complete twat to not think that when the first game launched it kicked EVERY first person dev in the balls when it came to a complete package. Plus, it made it all the more better being on a console, too.

The first one was a break through, correct; but it's also a last generation game and doesn't apply to the crop of current generation FPS's I was complaining about. Sorry, I should have been more clear, I was referring mostly to 3 and ODST whilst looking at them from only a single player stand point.
