Considering he color corrected and pretty much had to use artistic license on every aspect of the video, and considering how clear the audio was, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it was fake. It does help with the immersion, though.

It's not super exciting to see I guess, but Curiosity took a picture of a partial Solar eclipse where Mars' moon, Phobos, partially obscured the sun.

Yeah the article states that curiosity took multiple pictures so a timelapse video of it can be compiled.
