pete thinks that the earth is hurtling toward the sun, and this is what is partially responsible for global warming.

He thinks that earth's history started off with an ice age, when eart was far away from the sun.

I'm trying to say that the ice age is a periodic phenomenon, so if he's using his quacky theory to explain it, then he'd have to assume that the earth stopped hurtling toward the sun, then came hurtling away, then toward and back again.

Yep - you also find this in rock layers, except that instead of the alternating polarization being spread horizontally, they're stacked vertically.

Ok - ice ages come and go - there have been at least four of them since the earth formed over four billion years ago.

This means that the temperatures got colder, then warmer, then colder, then warmer.

Now you seem to think that the reason the earth is getting warmer is because it's gradually going toward the sun.

But that would mean there would have only been ONE ice age.

But there have been multiple ice ages, which means that the earth would have to be going toward the sun (getting warmer), and going away from the sun (getting colder) back and forth like a YOYO.

I was thinking that waverunners would have been very useful for the rescues in the flooded area, not for large #'s of people obviously, but if there were 100's of them zipping around, perhaps some even pulling small rafts...

How about a compromise, with rescuers on waverunners carrying guns for protecting people?
