Oh that is some top material right there.

I can't believe it's on the ADL website?
that cartoon can't even remotely be called defamatory. during the 1st intifada, the palestinians threw rocks and the IDF responded with live rounds. if there's any criticism that can be made of it, it's that it's *too* truthful to be funny
hmm actually the same thing happended at Kent St.

A rock in the head could kill you...I'm not throwing any rocks at any people who are carrying guns.

It's just not a good decision.

Policy is one thing, but you have to remember, be it riot police or soldiers, you are dealing with people and everyone has their limits. If I am carrying a gun and someone hurls a rock at my head, I cannot say that I would not take a shot at them. :icon26:

Then again I have never been in that situation :icon26:

While it's totally irrelevant to the matter at hand, you'd also be wearing body armor and a kevlar helmet. Said rock wouldn't do anything more than annoy you.

The difficult part here is trying to describe and decry the actions of a group of people without making useless generalizations. My original point in this thread was to shine a light on the idiocy of muslim fundamentalist actions in situations such as this. Take the recent statements of the Taliban for example. Are these the actions and intentions of a peace-loving group that espouses the true teachings of a benevolent god? I don't fucking think so. The main issue I was raising is that while ALL groups have their crazies, I don't see any other religious group doing this sort of thing.

On one hand, I could argue against your point by saying that no equivalent religion is existing under the same overall climate Islam is.

On the other hand, I could argue that this is irrelevant since Islam is to blame for that climate anyway.

Sorry, this one's kinda awkward to get across without sparking a load of nitpicks over the wording. Does it make sense?

Heh, "Taliban" you say? You mean the terrorist organization working under the CIA to generalize a certain religion and faith as one with murderous incentives and evil schemes in order for the New World Order to carry out its plans of uniting people to hate the last group of opposition.

No, I meant the Taliban, a real, non-secret organization that once governed Afghanistan in an official capacity.

Oh that Taliban...

The same one appointed by the US, right? You know, the one that received secret weapons to murder Soviets?

You should probably read up on the subject, you're mixing things up.

Thats irrelevant. Every other major world religion gets fun poked at it, thats part of a democratic society that espouses free speech.
Again, show that Jews are made fun of on a regular basis in public newspapers around the world. Just show me.
not quite a newspaper, but did you ever see an episode of The Nanny? :olo: :p

i'll give the obvious answer for you are going to give anyway: omglol that doesnt count, fran drescher is a jew herself so that makes it ok lolol

Btw aren't there hate laws against printing anti-semitic works in Western europe? I consider them an unnecessary impingement on freedom of speech of course*, but in the context of this story this could be percieved as a double standard in muslim countries.

* except where these laws forbid direct physical threats on an individual or group, in which case they wouldn't be considered hate laws in the conventional sense because of their broad scope

too bad indeed

The cartoon would likely have been quite disgusting and offensive, but it may have given the impression of even-handedness by the newspaper in muslim countries and perhaps put to rest the violent protests.

It obviously would've been transparent to the readers that the mere publishing of these cartoons would've been an expression of free speech in support of free speech, independent of whatever message the iranians decide to embed in their cartoons.

I know this story has dragged on a bit more than anyone's expected, but i've always had a talent for spotting an oppertunity when i see one and let me just say that i hope i'm not too late.

Here's the deal: i just got out of a meeting with our research people and preliminary results of our weekly targetgroup analysis suggest there's a large interest amongst our respondents to see you do that.

I've boldly made a few phonecalls to Major Networks, and at least two have showed an interest, one providing that you wear a wig of some sort, the other on the condition that we get Bob Saget to do the hosting.

I was thinking strategy wise it's probably best to stretch the whole thing out to a reality show of at least 8 episodes, in order to create a larger advertising window for our clients... To maximise effect it's probably not a bad idea to multimedia the whole deal, my secretary will send you the drafts of the banner and the print add first thing in the morning - so if you'll please send me some input on that, that'd be great mkay?
