ive seen that same toshiba lappy with a 17"wide, 9700mobile in it for 1600-1700$ at futureshop.

the x700 is better than the 9700mob but the 9700 is decent and blows away that 9000 integrated shit.

you won't be playing demos or wOw on that.

My previous one which I used for work lasted 3 years, till it got stolen out of my car. Plus the company I used to work for used several that got carried around a lot at constructions sites and everything and still worked fine. Are you talking about any specific models?

My flatmate had a (fairly cheap) one; within 3 months, the screen blnaked out when you tilted it at certain angles. This was a few years back, admittedly.

Toshiba satallites are pretty good machines. You can also maybe find a pretty high end used dell in the refurb area of dell's web-site.

That's what we use here for our mobile Avid workstations.
We send them out for months at a time with completely computer illiterate creative types, and the PCs themselves NEVER go wrong.

To be honest, if I were buying a laptop, it would HAVE to be a Mac, even given the quality of PC laptops these days.
I wouldn't touch their desktops for home usage at the moment, but for laptops, they're still the best.
AND there's a Mac version of WoW...

I just dont enjoy the macs interface. I've had a PC all my life and I think I'm stuck with em.

It scored 700 3Dmark05 points at 1280x800 with default test settings. Not to shabby for a notebook.

I doubt it. I got it at wholesale from one of my distributors with an extra %10 off because it was for internal use.

The retail on it was over $2000 with 512MB of RAM. I got the notebook, extra life battery plus an extra 512 stick of memory for all under 2k.

Lets also compare apples to apples here, this notebook is ten times superior in terms of quality to any Dell, Acer, or Gateway notebook.

I'm not knocking your LG notebook, it's probably a fine system. All I'm saying is that you could've done a little better shopping around (given how much you paid).

I didn't think you were knocking my notebook. :P I really just don't think you could find a better deal, although you're welcome to search for one and post it.

I haven't seen the full specs on your system, perhaps there's an expensive nugget hidden in the details.

I bought a 12" powerbook in april and it took a week or so to get used to the OS X interface. It's quite a clever design and it works great IMO. I'm using my powerbook more than my XP desktop machine atm (and I only use the PC to sync my Windows Mobile PDA with Outlook).
