still using my tnt2 vanta (geforce2 died). p3 1ghz good enough for me
Sweet, thanks. I haven't 3dmark'ed my system, but I'll be sure to do it before I put a new card in just to compare. :icon14:Cool Blue wrote:R00k I'll relate my experience since it's so close to yours.
About a month ago I upgraded from a 9600XT (AGP) to an MSI 6600GT (AGP). The performance gain is outstanding.
I was able to bump my game settings up to max in almost all my games (except BF2 cause it's coded like ass).
This system uses:
P4 3.1HT
1GB RAM
Intel 845 chipset
The 3dmark2005 scores were stunning.
Before the upgrade it was less than 1000, after the upgrade it was over 3000. Considering I'm forced to deal with the AGP bottleneck, I'm quite pleased with the increase.
First thing I did was put D3, BF2, Lock-On, and all my other games to the highest settings possible. They all run smooth. :icon14:
Don't worry, I'm definitely getting the flame stickers upgrade. :icon14:Pauly wrote:They are awesome cars
if you do and go with amd go 939 pci-e i reckon - i'm maxed nowwith socket 754 - but tbh its bloody fast - rendering vst music is fucking lightning - if i had 2 gig ram even bf2 would be respectable (its smooth once all the bs disc swapping has finished each map)Nightshade wrote:Ugh. Stop reminding me I need a new cpu and mobo.neh wrote:6800 gt will dick on a 9600xt from a great height - I got one when they were first out - recently upgraded cpu (from 64 300 to 64 3700) its still got a tonne of leg room (meaning its amazing how much the cpu was bottle neck even even an athlon 64 3000 - i suspect its still got leg room now aswell - its a great card and at £170 ish these days its a total steal
Same here. I've got a 9800pro and an XP2000+. No point in me getting a 6800GT until I've upgraded the cpu to a 64 bit system and a new mobo. Plus other bits like new case, cooling, and a bit more ram.DiscoDave wrote:Im considering getting a 6800GT but concerned with my XP 3200+ bottlnecking the beast

Get a 7800 GT for 331 from Dell after rebates...
nevermind...that's a pci card.
yea, get teh 6800 gt. I'd go with BFG's 6800 GT OC.
I love it.
So they've got a lifetime warranty on these?riddla wrote:tnf, same card I bought. Lifetime warranty sealed the deal.
That'll run space invaders just fine then.YourGrandpa wrote:A buddy of mine just built a AMD 64 4200+ with Dual 7800GTX in SLI, 1.4TB of H/B and 4 gigs of RAM.
What? No, I thought the 64-bit chipsets fully supported 8x AGP.Psyche911 wrote:eVGA just started offering a lifetime warranty too, keep that in mind.
You do realize, if you get a 6800GT now you can't keep it when you go "64-bit," right? AGP now, PCI-E then. Still a good card, but I'm holding out for a CPU upgrade at the same time. I notice a huge difference in taking my 2.4GHz P4 up a few hundred MHz. I can't imagine how much better an Athlon 64 at the same speeds would be.
riddla wrote:I got a 6800GT about a week ago. Now I'm actually taking time to finish Doom3 as a result. Much more fun to play at high settings than it was to play on lowest of low with the old Ti4600.
Really?tnf wrote:F.E.A.R. was a bit jumpy on my machine too...but thus far all other games have played fantanstic.

1 Gig Corsair XMS ram
BFG 6800 GT OC.
and my new Sony XBRITE LCD.
Well, nForce 3, yes. But I've heard of sketchy support for the latest processors (Venice/San Diego core, or dual-core) on a lot of nForce 3 boards.R00k wrote:What? I'm just gonna hold out awhile myself. Too many changes, ATM.

The system rocks.
3dMark05 Score was 7000+ with empty H/D's and one monitor.
My buddy's dual 7800 rig scores in the 12,000 range. :icon28:
