About a month ago I upgraded from a 9600XT (AGP) to an MSI 6600GT (AGP). The performance gain is outstanding.

I was able to bump my game settings up to max in almost all my games (except BF2 cause it's coded like ass).

This system uses:

P4 3.1HT
1GB RAM
Intel 845 chipset

The 3dmark2005 scores were stunning.

Before the upgrade it was less than 1000, after the upgrade it was over 3000. Considering I'm forced to deal with the AGP bottleneck, I'm quite pleased with the increase.

First thing I did was put D3, BF2, Lock-On, and all my other games to the highest settings possible. They all run smooth. :icon14:
Sweet, thanks. I haven't 3dmark'ed my system, but I'll be sure to do it before I put a new card in just to compare. :icon14:

Ugh. Stop reminding me I need a new cpu and mobo.
if you do and go with amd go 939 pci-e i reckon - i'm maxed nowwith socket 754 - but tbh its bloody fast - rendering vst music is fucking lightning - if i had 2 gig ram even bf2 would be respectable (its smooth once all the bs disc swapping has finished each map)

I'm running an XP3200+ and I know it's going to be the bottleneck. But you're always going to have a bottleneck somewhere - that just directs you what area to upgrade next. ;)

Same here. I've got a 9800pro and an XP2000+. No point in me getting a 6800GT until I've upgraded the cpu to a 64 bit system and a new mobo. Plus other bits like new case, cooling, and a bit more ram.

I've got a Socket 939 64 4000+
BFG PCIE 6800 Ultra 256
2 gigs of RAM

The system rocks.

3dMark05 Score was 7000+ with empty H/D's and one monitor.

My buddy's dual 7800 rig scores in the 12,000 range. :icon28:

So they've got a lifetime warranty on these?

When I was first looking, I really wanted to get one of these, but the fact that they were overclocked, and thus possibly shortening the lifespan of the GPU and causing anomalies, really worried me.

So if anything goes wrong with it I'm taken care of?

eVGA just started offering a lifetime warranty too, keep that in mind.

You do realize, if you get a 6800GT now you can't keep it when you go "64-bit," right? AGP now, PCI-E then. Still a good card, but I'm holding out for a CPU upgrade at the same time. I notice a huge difference in taking my 2.4GHz P4 up a few hundred MHz. I can't imagine how much better an Athlon 64 at the same speeds would be. :(

What? No, I thought the 64-bit chipsets fully supported 8x AGP.

Exactly, I bought my 6800gt right after HL2 came out. I put away finishing D3, HL2, and Farcry cause my 5900 just couldnt run them how I wanted. So I bought my 6800gt, and finally wanted to finish D3, HL2, and almost Far Cry :).

But now FEAR is starting to make my puter work again :p.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

I have a 6800 GT OC from BFG also. F.E.A.R. ran like a dream on my machine. I just turned off the AA was all, and ran it in 1280x1024. I never use AA at that high a rez or higher because it's not enough for me to notice the jaggy's above that rez. My card sits in a ADM 64 3200 with 1.5 gigs of DDR400.

Well, nForce 3, yes. But I've heard of sketchy support for the latest processors (Venice/San Diego core, or dual-core) on a lot of nForce 3 boards.

I'm just gonna hold out awhile myself. Too many changes, ATM.

STAY AWAY FROM 6800GT'S and NFORCE 3 MOTHERBOARDS!

Seriously though, there is a major problem with them combined, and new drivers. Newer then the 66's I think. Youre games will freeze at random, and studder for 10 seconds or more at a time, and continue to do it forever!!!!! So yeah, anyone wanna by and Nforce 3 mobo? :)

POOINYOURMOUTH, how did you get FEAR to run @ 1280X1024? Its not in my config settings, and I dont see a config to manually set it. Could you tell me how to set it to that res? My monitor doesnt look good running @ 1280X960
