Here's the biggest problem I see...
They need to use the old Q3 character animations in multiplayer.
The new animations are too difficult to predict which way someone is going to go, or how they'll react.
The Q3 animations are pretty much all the same for walking, jumping, etc. There are only a few tricky ones, so thank God for cg_forcemodel.
I suppose we'll get used to the new animations, but it'd be nice for the old ones to be thrown in there if a 'pro' mod ever sees the light of day.

Have you ever seen somebody do the double jump to the mega on the edge?
That's what id's talking about :icon14:

Ramp jumping originated in QuakeWorld

You can strafe jump in DOOM 3. If you're talking about the QW variety where you can curl around corners, etc, then no, you can't do that. But Quake III style is definitely in there. (hold forward+strafe left and jump, turning the mouse slightly left, press jump before you hit the ground, hold forward+strafe right, turn the mouse slightly right, etc, etc)
Try d3frag for DOOM 3. It's much like defrag for Quake III (murrrrr) so you'll have to strafe jump in it in order to get anywhere.

I haven't seen the screengrabbed videos yet, only the walking videocam footage...
Does the crosshair move? If so, yuck.
Also, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA AT NEWBS, I said years ago that you newbs who use 'pro' settings in Quake like r_picmip 5+ and r_vertexlight are going to have a rude awakening.
Guess what? If all is the same, the best you can do in Quake 4 is image_lodbias which will blur EVERYTHING, even the crosshair, thus making it useless to 'pro' config idiots, and turning off normal maps.
So, good job on letting your eyes relax all these years. You'd better start practicing on default settings, or prepare to be raped harder than you imagined.

Well, if you mean "pro" in that pro Quake III players use those settings, then you'd be correct. Those are "pro" settings. No point in making fun of people that use them. In fact, I can't think of a pro Quake III player that doesn't use picmip 5.
But yeah, I don't expect it to work in Quake 4.

Relax, it's just a beta.
Once the full game is released you're gonna see just as much tweaking and armor whoring and you're still gonna be raped harder than you imagined.

And what is ramp jumping?
there's ramp jumping in q1 iirc, even in the SP there was a secret you could only access with a ramp jump

double jumping is good, if that's all you can afford. ut2k4 has a modifier allowing quad jumping. it really does own too :icon14:

I'm sure no pro will have a problem owning you with the graphics set to full detail. :icon17:

The 'pros' are good because they can see people who are in dark areas because they have all the settings dumbed down. Also, since there are less texels to bother their eyes, picmip 5+ lets them see just the edges of the shapes of the map, and the players.
Don't even get me started on bright
promode skins. ROFL.
Edit: I was on full quality getting 15FPS shortly after Q3 came out, and I had no problem taking Zero4 5-0 on tourney4. He was using ridiculous picmip settings and a top notch video card pulling over 100FPS.
Then he started camping the red armor, and I had no idea the thing was timed back then. Oh well. It's a sad life he leads. I heard his dad ask him if he practiced grenades, to which the reply was, "For thirty minutes or so."

Most tweaks to gay up the gfx are prolly gonna be locked just like Doom 3. So all you picmip 8million whores better get used to default settings.

In Q3A if some can set r_picmip to 5 why would anybody use 0 that would be stupid. The "pro" players aren't going to use 0 if 5 is allowed because the picmip 5 players would have an advantage. What makes them better than 99% of other players isn't graphic settings. If in Q4 the settings are restricted there are still going to be people who play everyday and still suck and there are still going to be pro players. Most likely the same pro players who played Q3A with picmip 5 will be tearing it up in Q4 if it becomes the new Q3.

They might be on the net. Look for Battletop events in September 2000.

Exactly. That's why config tweaking is lame.
There's always a tweak on the horizon that someone figures out that, "Oh, when you use these two together, it puts you 2 packets ahead of everyone, so you lag on their screen, but it's smooth on yours! KEWL!" Or something equally retarded.

Hmmm are you sure? I played Doom 3 for about 5 mins and then gave up on the gayness, but I remember a lot of the SP tweaks I used didn't want to apply to MP. Didn't id said that's just how they want it? Locking settings so everyone has a level playing field? If so I would think Q4 will be the same.
