for starters, the server would need to have imageresize&compression software installed on it, which it doesnt.

No it wouldn't. The browser does it. just put width + height in the img tag.

(BTW Just like the lvlshot tag does it genius.)

wait, so the only thing you want is an image resized to 80x80 instead of the 320x240 (i think), without any change in filesize?
why ?

it's practical at 320, it's not at 80. If you want a true thumbnail, make it yourself or upload it to imageshack.

to MKJ:

so we can thumbnail images? Especially in quotes?

to Dave:

I don't see why it's impractical. 80x80 is still big enough to tell what the original image was. We wouldn't have threads clogged with the same huge image quoted over and over again.

or just do it yourself here, using the img html tag :o !!!

as such:

<img src="http://www.quake3world.com/forum/images/forums/1.jpg" height="80" width="80" alt="omglol" />

yea that looks real good :icon14:

so its easier to change a tag in a quote than just delete it all together?

this is starting to sound like a kracus-idea

you do understand that a 2 MB image file resized in the browser to 80px is still a 2 MB image file, right?

Yeah I could do that. Over and over. Or Dave could be nice guy and just copy the lvlshot command. Once.

Yeah I know but it's in my browser cache anyway.

so either you type <img src="*ctrl-v* height="80" width="80"></img> or you weed out all the lvlshots in quotes and replace them with [lvlshot2]ctrl-v[/lvlshot2].
a real timesaver, im sure

No but people would still know what I'm talking about. It's easier to change the tag than to describe the pic as the "pic with huge balloon and hooker".

what if I don't want to download a 2MB image file and store it in my cache? My option gives the user a choice, lvlshot/"thumbshot" doesn't

No it sucks because I have to download a pic and then upload it to imageshack just to get the thumbnail.

if you quote someone who posted an img (along with some text, most likely) its pretty obvious what you're talking about innit.

also, downsizing a 640x480 img to 80x80 doesnt make it all that clear either :D
