Mode-soloing is so 80s.
I practiced 6 - 8 hrs a day when I was younger (what a fucking waste of time). Then I met my 2nd guitar teacher who happened to play a lot of Jazz with me and all of a sudden all the scales just disappeared in favor of sound.
You can play a C Lydian scale over a C Ionian chord progression. Question is: How do you do it? In C Lydian you got the F# which is an odd note to play, especially on the Subdominant (IV) of said chord progression.
Still, you can use it as a passing, chromatic note. Or you could play a Gmaj7 arpeggio on the Dominant chord (V) instead of the boring G maj chord.

As you said, it's more of a passing note than actually using a different mode. You can use all 12 notes if you like, and call it, let's say, expressionism

You right. I have to admit, I tend to post alot more in music-discussions than I do in other quarrels.

Come to think of it - I still believe it would be fucking nice to have a q3w-theme composed and recorded by the musicians here.
Just imagine:
Lyrics and raps by CaseDogg
DruMs DruM

Bass fuck me, how should I know?
Geetar Geebs, Diego, Jugs, whoever wants a part....
Keyboards... BWAHAHAHAHAHA...
Yeah, it's still very rudimentary and not completely planned, but it's always the initial thought and the first idea that lead to greater things!

Some day I will probably start learning a few scales, just to play allong with a certain riff, but then again I lack the experience of playing in a band, wich is imo the best practice to learn some scales even without knowing the theory.
I don't think it will be hard to learn just a few scales and how to elaborate on them, just need to find a good teacher

I read the entire first page and I don't think anybody told him that the solo you're going to play depends on the key the song is in.
No matter what scale you're playing, if it's not in the same key as the rhythm it's going to sound like shit. Pretty basic, but it might be something he doesn't know.
