TBH, I've never seen or known a teacher who has done the volcano project. I made a mini-volcano of sorts using a gummy bear, some potassium chlorate, and a bunsen burner. It didn't quite go as planned (most of my demonstrations don't) and I ended up with a piece of molten gummy bear landing on my neck, burning me pretty good.

lol, bet that kept their attention though.
On the subject of chemical reactions... *cough* ... I've read that potassium permanganate is very useful in water. It can sterilize it, turn it into a disinfectant, and even turn it into an anti-fungal solution.
Is there any truth to this?

It's an oxidizer, so it would probably do some disinfecting. I don't know about anti-fungal solutions...possible...would depend on the concentration I guess..

just had to give you a lil business. :icon31:
prob. be the the only time I get over the mts. for a while.
but if you ever get out this way, the moo is in my backyard..
"Designed by Arnold Palmer, Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club is Washington's #3 public course as rated by Golf Digest, 2005. This tree-lined masterpiece allows you to relax and enjoy nature at its best. The golfing challenge is second to none, with water in play on five holes and 67 strategically placed bunkers. The fairways are rolling and generous, with fast and challenging greens. Tee box placements adjust the degree of difficulty to make the course playable for golfers of all skill levels, yet at 7,005 yards from the tips, this course challenges even tour players. Semiahmoo is open to the public on odd days of the month."

It would take 3-4 years. I'd have to start all over with a whole new research project - I didn't leave the last lab on the best of terms.

that's a shame and a waste of time

It's not too much of a shame, actually. In hindsight, the cancer research I had begun was probably not going to uncover much. (that opinion is part of the reason I didn't leave on the best of terms..)
There are lots of other things I'd rather pursue in a research project at this time. However, I just don't think I could do the 4 years of graduate research at this point...
The true shame is that I just didn't stick with it during my first go-round.
