The main reason I'm worried about the Apple Intel switch is because Dell sucks so fucking much that they have made a bad name for the x86 'brand'

After seeing literally hundreds of Dells run for years without a hitch, and having two Dell laptops and a Dell Pocket PC, I have to say that none of the Dells I've ever seen have been anything close to crap.

My sister's Dell laptop was fucking shit. She got it in about 2001 or so. It came with ME. It was one of the Dimensions with the bigger screens. The problem was though, back then they put them together so poorly that one of the removable drives wouldn't click in anymore. So if you put the laptop at an angle, your cd drive or whatever you had in there would just fall out

. Also the connections to the monitor kept getting loose, so the colors would get all fucked up. A couple of the keys popped off. I could go on, but whatever.
I hear they've gotten better with their laptops since then though. But honestly, our Vaio laptop is the best I've used. It actaully FEELS solid, especially compared to dells, and we haven't had a single problem with it in the 2 and a half years that we've had it.

I've gotten a computer or two that crapped right out of the box, usually only when we buy the cheaper dimension desktops in bulk. No big deal next day onsite repair and we're back online again

That's one of Dell's main problems they cater to everyone...
Most people order the cheapest hunk of crap they can find and then complain about it because it's such a hunk of shit

(statement not directed at you) You get what you pay for as you go up in price the quality of parts and construction increase.
Look at the dell XPS gaming laptop, well designed sold construction and second only to alienware, but only in processor. Dell used the pentium M instead of a P4 so it could up its video card instead...
