Odd, I'm surprised you haven't complained about the obvious mipmapping on the line
Actually, with the line turned off I like it much more. But it still has very little personality.

i dont mind forza, i think it puts GT4 to shame, and the xbox is HOW OLD again? So of course its not gonna look AMAZING but it looks great for what it is and what its on.

The original Gran Turismo had that. I'm going to give Forza another go - I suspect that the terrible music and the kind of GT lookie-likey menus are the main turn off at the mo.
Yeah if you want a challenge turn everything off, drive standard. Leave the line on if you want you can turn it off and get back to me, it's a whole different game. I like the line because it compensates for the loss of the feeling of momentum. You can't feel momentum in a game so the line does a good job of telling you when you've slowed down enough for a turn. GT3 had the same thing telling you what gear you should be in for a given turn.
Wait till you get to Tokyo, you'll curse this game then.

OK, I'm enjoying it more now. It's a pain in the arse to have to keep swapping cars in the early races, and TBH none of the basic cars seem very different to drive once you've put racing parts in them. But they've got Laguna Seca in there, which is a great track and has the trickiest chicane ever. I used to be able to nail it in GT2, but I haven't got the hang in Forza yet.

Yeah later on in the game swapping cars isn't such a big deal plus you can swap right before a race you don't have to go completely out into the menu to choose the right car which is nice. I forget which race is laguna seca though. The toughest course I find though is definitely Tokyo. If you want cool though take all the extra shit off like abs, tcs and stability. Not only is the game MUCH MUCH harder but it'll teach you how to properly brake and use the gas.

I've already got TCS and the line turned off.
Tokyo's a nice course and *very* Gran Turismo. I like those kind of street racing tracks though, feels like you should drift it but if you actually avoid drifting and hit all the apices right, the corners all kind of "disappear". Although I had to strap a rocket booster to my Nissan to win it.
It's just a bit of a pisser that I have to go out at the start and buy a car, and then never use it

what nissan are you using? S14 silvia? Fairlady? ( 350Z )

Yeah later on you'll find you'll only use certain cars for certain tracks unles you're an enthusiast for a certain car or looking for eternal frustration. I would turn the line on if I were you and turn the rest off, I love it. It teaches you how to break properly cause most peopl tend to use the abs rather than applying 75% break or 50% break or whatever you need they apply excessive break instead and rely on the abs to slow them down. Otherwise, if you don't have abs you'll just go straight.
The TCS isn't really a big problem until you start racing cars that have 800+ HP. Then it becomes an excersize in trying to keep the wheels from spinning out.

Nissan are my favorite cars so far, I have most of them. I have 3 or 4 different Skylines I use, two 350Z's and a Fairlady Z33. I almost always race one of these cars if I can.

No, just that piece of shit you win right at the start. I'm not sure if I'm thinking of Tokyo or Tokyo 2, come to think of it - the first Tokyo track you get to.

Tokyo 2 is just the regular tokyo in reverse I think...

I hate to pull an O'dium, but the mipmapping on the line really really fucks me off. Plus if you're concentrating on the line, the sense of speed isn't as good.

We'll one thing that (most) people dont understand is that the natural disposistion of basically ANY nissan is for the Rear to slide out, ( reguardles if you are talking about the R series Chassis's, s, z, or fm )
they are easy to control as long as you take this into consideration, and the fast that they are HARDER to spin becuase of this, usually when im driving i'm able to get about a 45Deg angle into the turn Letting the ass end slide without actually trying/forcefully drfting.
this is why i got a nissan in my posestion, and my next car will be a newer virsion ( Current: '90 s13 coupe, Next S14 )

Actualy it's better cause that line gives you a sense of how fast you're going. Once you get used to it you'll start noticing that the line will be red not always in the same place which tells you how much faster you must be going. Plus if you break the way I explained above you'll find you can break and stay right on the edge of the red around certain truns and really get a good corner but it takes a lot of practice. It's really tough not to break 100% but worth it if you can get used to it.
To give you an idea, since I started playing I've played 10 hours so far and I'm level 38. You'll find levels very hard to get later on unless you have your difficulty % up and getting used to driving with no abs no stabality and no tcs a LOT harder when you're racing the later driverse cause they get pretty good later on. I've been playing races where you have to pit which is pretty cool.

You can tweak the tires to fix that to a certain extent.
Have you noticed, all of the controls seem to have rather a lot of dead zone, and then you're suddenly at the maximum? I wish there was slightly finer control over throttle and brakes.
Come to think of that, that might be the ABS *turns it off*
I hate Nissans in driving games, because they're always ridiculously good in comparison to everything else so you have to use them *thinks back wistfully to first TVR in Gran Turismo*

Actualy no I don't find there's a dead zone at all and you can even SEE how much you pressed and what you were doing exactly in the replay. You can check stats and see how much you were pressing the trigger buttons and where you were steering and everything from friction to G's generated if you hadn't noticed it yet it's pretty neat.

Oh yeah, I love the slipstreaming in Forza, you really get a sens that you're sucking power out of the other driver's car

Hmm, maybe it's 'cos I have the old large controllers.

Yeah there's a light that turns on too to let you know, I hadn't noticed it till I was already driving ferrari's. I just got a koenigsegg last night and it fucking destroys. Very hard to keep it on the road though.
Train a drivatar yet?
