In France only two kinds of snowboarders wear helmets: Brits who can't snowboard for shit, and Frenchies that are incredibly awesome.

In both cases i woulndn't call them sissies, as both stand a substantially higher chance of hurting themselves badly than the avarage boarder you'll see.

I can only think of one person who has had a really bad bike accident in this county. I can't remember if she had a helmet or not but she was riding her bike and some how when she fell off the kickstand stabbed her in the fucking brain. Instatard.
Friend of mine when i was a like 8 or so, got hit by a car and was put in a wheelchair.. no helmet..

Same guy hit me 2 weeks prior, no damage, just a few cuts.. Month or so before that he hit someone else..

Yeah i think hes in jail now.. lol

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

I dont wear a helmet for normal bike riding. But im gonna get one for some 'off-the-road-cycling'.
I found out that i prefer that above the normal daily run i used to do. Yesterday i nearly slipped while going downhill, luckily i didnt fell, cause i would have smashed my head for sure. So i will use a helmet from now on while riding my mountainbike, but for the rest i say no to helmets.

does anyone has some advice for a reliable helmet?

Serious bikers wear helmets all the time; you look like and idiot without one. The only people I ever see without them are 1) old people on cruisers, 2) little kids, 3) stupid gangbangers on their "bmx" bikes.

I've seen two too many bikers get hit by cars (some just crossing the street at a stoplight) not to advise everyone to wear a helmet, good cyclist or not. I've even been saved by my own helmet more than once and wouldn't think about going anywhere without one. I don't know why anyone would think they're ineffective.

Yeah, but do you ride it like a bmx bike or do you just cruise the side walks with the seat down extra low because that's what all the other cool homies do?

Great fucking logic. I don't wear a bullet proof vest and I've never died of shotgun wounds either, not once.

So you cite 'messing up your hair' as a reason not to wear a helmet, then state that people who wear helmets are sissies?

Fucking lol.

Where are you getting the impression that they're not that effective? I have to say that when I was a kid, I never would have worn one, and luckily I never had a wreck that made me think otherwise.
Today I feel differently. They don't look half as stupid as they used to, and any protection is better than none. Better to look like a special needs child than to become one.
Even Duke would raise a glass to that...

lance armstrong wears a helmet so you know they're cool.

oh and if you're doing a lot of biking i'd say get one. think about it this way...whenever you see a person riding their bike with a helmet on do you honestly thinkg to yourself, "boy that guy sure looks stupid wearing that helmet." chances are you don't and neither does anyone else--unless of course the helmet is worn incorrectly or not properly sized.

my uncle used to ride his bike all the time. someone driving wasn't paying attention and rear-ended him. he flew over the handlebars straight onto his head. luckily he was wearing a helmet and he just had a stiff neck and few cuts and scratches. the helmet however shattered into a lot of pieces so it obviously absorbed a lot of force that would have otherwise most likely severly injured my uncle or even kill him.

Well... in terms of protection yes they do protect. I however don't like them much, I wear em when I go riding hard or if I'm going to go racing but for a leisure ride to the store I don't bother.

Might want to look into getting a full faced helmet, they look like dirtbike helmets. Pretty cool.

A cycling helmet has already saved me from serious injury.

I was hammering down a path and a tree was across it...so I bunny-hopped it. No problem.

The trouble is that was concentrating on the ground obstacle so much that I didn't see the low hanging branch. Right at the top of my jump I cranked the top of my head into it but I managed to make the landing.

My neck was fucked for weeks but at least I didn't leave my skull plate on the tree bark.

Plus I have a tendancy to bomb down steep stairs. :icon26:

BTW...replace your helmet if it's taken a hard knock.

Here in Florida its a law for kids under 16 or 18 to wear helmets. I remember when it was passed I said, I aint going to make my kids wear one cause I never did. Well, My daughter crashed and burned, came down on the side of her head giving her bad road rash across the side of her face and ear and hair area, plus her hands and knees. I went out and bought them helmets and they wear them all the time now. And when scootering, skating or skateboarding. I however do not wear one when I roller blade just because I have been to lazy to go buy one. I recommend them.

Another testament to helmet use is a friend of mine.

About 10 years ago he borrowed my bike to ride to work. I saw my bike on the six o'clock news...it was bent to shit and trashed. Then the phone rang.

He was hit by a driver who simply didn't see him. Ray's head went through the windsheild as he flipped across the hood. His skull plate was pushed into his brain and they had to drill. His head was the size of a basketball.

Luckily he survived and blazed through rehab like a champ...but he's deaf in his right ear and his vision and balance are a bit fucked.

A helmet probably would have helped in his case...so better safe than sorry. Only vain fagg0ts who look in mirrors more often than women don't wear helmets.

i dont didnt wear one simply because it made me look like a twat, i had a few nasty accidents but i got through them  the only time i wish i had one was when i was going down my street and some lil shit threw a house brick at my head, i came off but he went back to his dad with a black eye

if i go through the forests or go tearing around now i might buy one just for that but if im just cycling to work or someshit i wouldnt even look at it

but at the end of the day its upto you... i mean if you go round biking a lot or if your area is like a kill zone for cyclists then its best to have one
