I agree, I've seen some of the new 9ms ones on display, but not seen any games running on them.

1600x1200 @ 109Hz, nice
Mine only gets 75Hz at that resolution.
Then again, I have had this monitor for 5 1/2 years...

Just because you can't tell the difference doesn't mean they are the same. Monitors have a range in price for a reason. Just like everything else...

Yeah, isn't about the only difference that these LCD monitors are more expensive to make?

That sentence made no sense.
Do you mean the only difference between LCD & CRT is the price?

Size. A CRT is about 10 times as deep as an LCD. Weight, an LCD is very light, unlike my 19" CRT which weighs about 50 pounds. Power consumption; Current LCDs conserve a fair amount more electricity, and future ones (oLEDs, etc) offer to improve that quite a bit. Some people also find reading text on LCDs easier on the eyes.
I still have a CRT, and I'm gonna stick with it until it dies because it offers a great picture. But the convenience of an LCD is a huge selling point.

It was free, I don't think that will really bother him. It's not like he paid the $709MSRP.
