When we're on our deathbeds, we're going to wish we could reclaim the time we spent wandering around for save points long after we were done playing every night. Imagine if your word processing program did this, refusing to let you save your progress until you typed six more paragraphs. Or, made you retype your last paragraph six times while zombies tried to shoot your cursor...

Think of it this way. When you're bored at work, what do you play? Solitaire. Why? Because you don't have to spend 5 minutes looking for a CD-ROM, 5 minutes watching corporate logos and 5 minutes watching load screens. You click and you play.

In FPS games built entirely on the anticipation of using gigantic, phallic-symbol weapons, why not start me out with a damned machine gun and 200 rounds of ammo and go up from there?

UT2004 has a full blown irc client
almsot all MMOs have global in game chat and buddy systems
only thing missing is the html client and i wouldnt doubt that its in something that i havent played

Yes. It would be much easier to just check something in game than have to spend loading time closing or minimizing your game and loading up a separate program.
I mean fuck, it's not like you would have to use it. It wouldn't hurt you by being there.

Hint:
Some of the newer games take a while to load. They also take a while to exit. If you wanted to browse the internets for a little bit, instead of having to close out, you could just exit to the menu and use the shit. It's actually more convenient than it sounds. I thought it was pretty cool that Tribes had a built in IRC client. I've actually used that while taking breaks from actually playing the real game.

Speed Cheating. That miraculous burst of catch-up speed from your opponents. CPU tacklers and recievers do it in Madden. I'm also looking at you, every racing game ever made.
The Original Mario Kart on the SNES is an exception. Which is why it's the best racing game every made.
EDIT: But it's so true, too. Why should I lose a race because I ran everything exceptional well, yet I managed to bump into something 2 seconds before the finish line.

I haven't seen any rubberbanding in Outrun2 either. it's a quality game

there are lots of racing games that dont have that.
in some cases (read: most), its simply a gamedesign issue. see, a lot of people were complaining about the rubberband AI in Burnout3. well, since the game revolves about making your opponents crash, it would suck if you could leave your opponents 30 secs behind you. thats be one boring race
NFSU however, is terrible. not only extreme rubberband AI, but also random traffic spawning when you're doing too well. thats just plain cheating

You sure about that? Although I may be thinking of Mario Kart 64 *digs through ROMS*
rubberband AI completely ruined Gran Tourismo 3 for me. It's all the more disappointing because the actual driving feels so realistic

i know alot of ps1 fans were more like disk collectors/completeists
