All Turks require extra documentation to travel outside country
All Turkish academics banned from traveling abroad
That list is all kinds of fucked up, but this strikes me as particularly insidious.

Erdogan is trying to establish a religious government, and knowledge has always been religion's Achilles' heel. His cover for this is that the schools have ties to Gulen, which is his main rival. Although I don't know how much he can do from his mansion in Pennsylvania....

Gulen is a bit of a religious nutter as well, so it's quite as simple as that

The news keep referring to it as a "failed coup". I'm pretty sure the coup was 100% successful in what it tried to achieve.

Its suprising how many people miss understand this situation. Everyone I've personally talked to, saw the coup as a threat , and are glad it failed. And I'm thinking the media's lack of transparency in the issue here. How is it that no main stream newscast even touched on the possibility of this being a ruse?
When I'm getting better information from a quick reddit scan through, compared to possible hours upon hours of professional tv news reporting and considering how much they love speculation and such , there's a serious disservice going on.
