I got an appointment on February 3 to see the specialist that's probably doing the operation. Apparently they are all very busy. I recon the surgery won't be until March :smirk: See how we go...

I will Doctor shop today to try and get a closer date.

Hey quickie for the medicos: Do they use sutures or something like a glue these days?

-7.50 suggests there was a surgical procedure preceding the actual laser

do you still need lenses or glasses?

There was no surgery prior to the laser.

I see 20/20 or better. Don't need lenses...

Ah cool. I had read night vision can sometimes be bad, in-fact someone I know who had a very old form of laser eye surgery was practically blind at night :/.

My prescription is fairly low (-1.75 or so in both eyes) but I have a large astigmatism which fucks up my distance vision. I get double-vision at distance uncorrected.

20/20 vision just means that you have normal vision. It's perfectly plausible for someone to have better than 20/20 vision, e.g. 25/20 where they can read something at 25' that someone with normal vision could only read at 20'.

If you already went to see your doctor, you probably should have asked what the entire procedure involves.

Thanks obsidian. I hadn't seen that informative page

I will ask about the procedure on the appointment with the person driving the bus.

The Optometrist/Optician in the shopping centre who discovered the cataracts wasn't the right person to ask I think. He ended up doing a retina scan as he couldn't understand why he was having problems doing the 'normal' tests for spectacles :smirk:

Additionally I had my eyes tested for spectacles last November and had glasses prescribed for the first time in my life. All think that's pretty good for a person on my age.

Waits for 3 February ......

Oh, and thanks SoM for the nightmares :D

Appointment done. I am really happy as I don't have to wait on some (public hospital) list somewhere
The first operation is next Wednesday and the other eye the following week :yay:

Thank you all for your advice

Well, well, well.
Woke this morning to a new, clear, and bright day and all things are beautiful. This is just a one-eyed view :)

The song, "I can see clearly now the rain has gone" is most fitting

Just attended the post-op appointment.

I have to report for your information that all the testing they just did showed I had better than 20/20 vision now and that's still with one eye in cataract  Asked to read the top line of the eye chart I said, the bottom reads Q G O P T M X S. Doubting, the nurse asked I read the next (flips screen ) backwards. Again 100%

When they did their initial testing they found my 'master eye' was my left (apparently the brain chooses one) and it was my left I had done first. Lucky me.

I drove to the appointment today an noticed the 'metal flake' in my car paint job :smirk: and I don't think I've seen that in a while.

Lots of drops for the eye over the next 4 weeks... If I was to sum up the experience this far I would say miraculous.

PS: I don't answer scared? anymore. Not that I am ignorant, heaven forbid he/she drove me there. Just that I don't see that post. I near feel sorry for the poor soul :tear:

Just returned from the operation.

In the first one I was out to it entirely and experienced, remembered nothing.
This time completely awake even talking to the surgeon mid operation with no problems at all. It was nice to feel and be aware throughout the procedure. Anyone following should have little/no concerns if having the same procedure.

Just noticed my typing is better too.
