Evolve Big Alpha
Re: Evolve Big Alpha
So what's the story on this game? I was looking at adding it to my wish list on the Steam store, but then found out that it says that I already own it. Is that just the alpha or did I somehow end up owning the full game?

Re: Evolve Big Alpha
There's only an alpha out right now but maybe you preordered it?
Re: Evolve Big Alpha
I disagree with the monster. I've killed so many groups. The kraken is pretty op if you ask me. That thing moves so fast it's almost too easy to reach lvl 3

If you have a good group you can take it down within 3 minutes

Only played Goliath by the way....
Re: Evolve Big Alpha
It depends on who's playing the monster. I find a good tactic is to keep moving and ambush the hunters
Re: Evolve Big Alpha
feedback, I sent you a code.
I've got three more by the way, if anyone's interested.
I think the alpha lasts until tomorrow though (it has been extended until 12:00PM PST on Tuesday November 4)

Re: Evolve Big Alpha
Oh yeah so I just played a few games. They were a bit hit and miss.
The first game was nice, I played as a medic. The monster was tough and managed to evolve to level 3 and ended up killing us all. The next game I was a monster and I sucked because I had no idea what I had to do. The hunters were also on me in 20 seconds, so I didn't last really long. The two other games were decent. I played assault in both. In one we won and in one we lost, with the monster having evolved to level 2 and killing us with just a shed of health left.
It was pretty good fun. I thought the tracking and finding the monster was actually more fun than the actual combat, where things tended to get a bit chaotic. It ran like a turd on my laptop though and the waiting times in the pre-game setup are terrible, but other than that it's a pretty fun game.

Re: Evolve Big Alpha
Finding the monster is boring, and the combat is spastic. Not sure why people got so hyped over this one.
Re: Evolve Big Alpha
Played for 30 mins as the monster. Also found it slightly boring.
Re: Evolve Big Alpha
Tracking can be a bit tedious I agree but I don't mind it because I'm in a tracking frame of mind when I'm playing as one of the hunters.
I find tracking monsters pretty straight forward once you get used to it and I've had some really fun chases but having a good tracker in your group is basically a must. If your tracker sucks it's going to be a shit show.
You NEED the tracker to be on point and good at their role otherwise you spend the entire match basically running around and that's not fun. If the tracker is good though it's pretty fun to suddenly spot the monster and see the arena deploy overtop of him and have that battle with it.
Basically the matches ideally should consist of trapping the monster at least 2 - 3 times before killing it or it killing you and if both sides are evenly matched I find this is pretty much how it plays out.
There needs to be a bit more to tracking though. I played a match today where we lost Daisy early in the match and the monster got away while we were dealing with some wildlife and we basically lost it and couldn't find it again. We regrouped at the generator and waited for it there but it didn't show up and the game timed out in our favor.
The Monster is easily my favorite to play though and I love it. I LOVE laying traps for the hunters and waiting to ambush them it's so much fun and wickedly evil. As the Kraken you can fly really high and rain death from above, basically fighting it in an open space is a really bad idea if you're a hunter.
I've also done a sneak kill as the goliath on a hunter which was epic, it's an instant kill I even ate the hunter.
All around though this isn't a straight up shooter game. It's a hunting game and tracking your game is part of the hunt. I think Daisy should be made much tougher though and perhaps be changes so she can only revive the tracker class.

Re: Evolve Big Alpha
Have you completed it yet on hard?
Re: Evolve Big Alpha
I did not. On the game's storefront I see the price but it won't let me buy/preorder since it says I own it. I installed it, so I assume that means I just have the alpha, but I find it odd that they won't give me an option to actually buy it. So is it just the alpha or did I somehow accidentally get this game for free?Eraser wrote:There's only an alpha out right now but maybe you preordered it?

Re: Evolve Big Alpha
Although I canceled my pre-order because of all the DLC bullshit I did wind up buying this game when I saw it in the discount bin. It's honestly a great little game.
Despite the DLC bullshit the core gameplay is very well done. The arenas you play in are very well built and fun to roam around in. The matchmaking has been fixed so you can choose to be a monster all the time or a hunter. All in all this is a great little game.
The monsters are extremely satisfying to play as and they each have their own styles and quirks. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good arena shooter or if you just want to pulverize groups of players at a time by yourself.
Players raging at the medic when the match is over never gets old.
