So you don't own a car, and work for a rental company.

pft, I could drive circles around you, I'm not saying all mazdas suck, I'm sure the higher end models probably aren't as noisy or uncomfortable but the Mazda 3 has the quality of a potato.

If you own one and you think it's a good car I suspect you haven't driven many other cars.

Yes 110 kph is to be found on some highways "down under" but generally it is a 100 kph speed limit.

Oh, and the police here are dropping their tolerance just about every year and we believe they will book/fine you for just like 4 k over. They fancy their radar fixed, mobile and hand held here :smirk:

You have fixed speed cameras I suppose too?

This heavy handed policing is not a bad thing I suppose as there are so many idiots on the road. BTW, our national road toll is down and if that is something to be proud of, I don't know. I had to check data for peace of mind.

Quick search reveals fatalities for one state, Queensland for the first 6 months of years (January - June)
2012 = 119
2012 = 129
2013 = 145
2014 = 103

Poor Kracus watches all the cars go by and he whispers to himself "one day" repeatedly as a tear rolls down his cheek and into his laminated weekly bus pass.

Not sure what you mean by fixed cameras, are those like speed traps? If so, no we don't have those here. I've had one cop pull me over for going 115 once in a 110 zone (most of our highways are 110). I went to court over it and contested the charge, the cop didn't show up so I won and the ticket was dismissed, it's really unusual for them to do that though but I was in a country area that has next to nothing going so the cop was probably bored.

If they're anything like the ones we have here they look like this, and are all over the place. They're automatic so work all day.

Yes, just like that. They have same for people that run red lights too and they are probably more numerous here.

They have a number of fixed cameras on the other side of overhead bridges that cross freeways where the speed limit is 100kph.

What? Is that really how it works there? The cop has to show up in person, and if he doesn't the ticket is automatically dismissed? Why doesn't everyone contest their tickets always and everywhere then? Cops would have a full time job just showing up in court.
Here it's a longwinded process to contest a ticket and it doesn't happen very often that you get it dismissed. Cops are infallible for our law so if a cop wrote a ticket, it's up to you to prove he's wrong, which is rather hard in most cases. I don't really agree with that system either but your system sounds like the wild west.

Cops get paid time and a half to go to court, if they don't show up it's because they don't give a shit. In Kracus' case, they noticed the rusty rental car he was driving and felt bad for him.

I actually really love the Miata and the RX7, RX8. I know I'm generalizing but it's more of a tongue in cheek comment.

The mazda 3 I drove though really did suck, easily as bad as a Kia Spectra I owned several years ago for a very brief period of time.

On Monday I drove a 2014 Hyundai Elantra and goddamn that car is good on gas. The first car I ever bought with my own money was a 2002 Elantra. Like most "first" cars I loved it and thought it was a great car even back then. I got in an accident with it though and then bought the infamous Tiburon involved in that club business scandal I posted about once upon a time.
