The video looks good but isn't this exactly what Blizzard do? Produce videos that look amazing and probably take up a huge amount of time and cost to produce, then the game that eventually comes out looks nothing like it .

Yeah, Blizzard creates amazing FMV's, but they're part of the games as well. Usually they introduce a new game with such a video, but never do they pretend that it's what the game itself looks like.

Your choice of words makes it sound like you imply Blizzard misleads customers in a 'bullshot' kind of way, but that's not the case.

CGI teasers are nothing new and I don't think anyone—including id—is pretending this is what the game will look like.

Of course I don't think they're trying to misrepresent the game. Blizzard videos always look great as did this one for Doom.

I suppose what I'm getting at is with these sorts of videos, no matter how good they are they don't really give you any insight into the game at all so whilst they look cool, they're not that useful as a player.

.. they still tempt me to buying the game though so I suppose they serve their purpose .

When a "first glimpse" of a "new" 'game' is announced, I expect gameplay footage, not some cut-scene

Yeah gameplay would be preferred, but I guess they're ramping up to build hype. As a game reveal, this ain't half bad in this day and age. The usual way of business these days is to first put out a press release that your company is going to announce an announcement.
