And out come the fanboisNightshade wrote:Hold your horses my little fuckaroo, it still runs Windows. That alone can equate to a massive suck factor. The Windows RT version intrigues me, however, since I deal with RT systems on a daily basis. What's funny is that in my world, if you want to run an RT system, the first thing you do is chuck Windows out the door and run Pharlap or VxWorks.Captain Mazda wrote:Looks like a tablet that will be superior to the iPad...

Oh indeed, because acknowledging that Windows is prone to crashes and blue screens of death makes me a fanboi. So does drawing on professional experience in using Windows in machine control and automation, it would seem.

Old Windows was like that, Windows 7 is so solid its unreal. My iPhone crashes more often than my Windows PC. What you are saying is true of the past, but absolutely not the current iterations of Windows
Re: Microsoft Surface...

Re: Microsoft Surface...
lol who the fuck even uses IE? Everyone will install Firefox or Chrome on it, so it's a non-issue. Safari is shit too.

I like how they called it Surface. Cause it's like a touch-sensitive surface that you touch and stuff. Very innovative.

MS is being a bit of a cunt about other browsers on Windows 8.Captain Mazda wrote:lol who the fuck even uses IE? Everyone will install Firefox or Chrome on it, so it's a non-issue. Safari is shit too.
For some reason, they aren't allowing 3rd party browsers to run in the Windows Classic mode (which basically is Win8's desktop) and when running in the Metro UI using the Windows RT API's, they don't allow full access to all the API's that IE has access to. So that means no 3rd party can ever build a browser that can compete with IE because MS won't allow it. Both Mozilla and Google are making quite a bit of ruckus over this, already talking of possible anti trust lawsuits and such.
Not sure why they aren't making as much noise about it for iOS though, as Apple won't allow any 3rd party browser engines on there either. All custom browsers (with the exception of Opera Mini, which does the page rendering remotely) on iOS are basically shells around the Safari webkit engine. Then again, I'm not sure if MS would permit such "reskins" of IE10 either. I guess it's mostly due to legal issues. MS already lost a law suit over exactly these sorts of practices before so they're an easy target. Also, Apple isn't dominating the mobile/tablet market like MS dominates the PC market.

Donny, I get what you're saying, but trust me, you don't run critical or real-time applications on a Windows machine. It's still not stable enough and it's definitely not fast enough. Almost the entire internet is run on Unix machines, last time I checked.Don Carlos wrote:Old Windows was like that, Windows 7 is so solid its unreal. My iPhone crashes more often than my Windows PC. I've seen a few BSODs on my Win7 64-bit work laptop, btw.
