Did I ever say I didn't like Halo because Microsoft was behind it? No. I don't like it because it's a fucking bland game with nothing to offer the gaming community other than a waste of time. The Gears series is published by MS and those games aren't half bad. I played through the first GoW I don't know how many times because it was great for some mindless enjoyment. And Horde mode was a blast online. I'm in the Modern Warfare camp over Battlefield, but I don't hate on BF. It's just not my type of shooter.

Ah, so you're only part-idiot then.

You know what you sound like? You sound like you're defending some prized jewel in gaming. I don't like Halo and I think it didn't contribute anything to video games. I'm firmly aware of all the awards it won and all the praise it got in the media, but I also think most people are sheep.

Baa?

It couldn't possibly be that there are millions of folks who enjoy different type of games than you do, could it? Give it a bloody rest. The Halo series is by no mean "the best evaaar" but it was and remains a decent series with a huge fanbase and a dedicated multiplayer following. Not every game has to reinvent the industry and push boundaries.

The only thing it contributed for me was hours of entertainment. I don't know why it has to do more than that...

I can't argue with that. i can play games like Dues Ex- for hours... any type of future based scifi with eye filling contemporary level design and satisfying enough gameplay is "good stuff" in my book. Speaking of which, Syndicate had some beautiful level design, satisfying gameplay and excellent AI . Matter of fact, it blew Dues Ex out of the water on those three aspects. The story wasn't anywhere as good, but the gameplay was fun enough for me not to really care.

I'm sure there are, and they're all fucking retards. :) And you're right, not every game has to be a diamond in the rough, but those are the kind of games I'm typically drawn toward.

Seriously, though. Halo? C'mon. Gamers can do better.

Because, each major title that comes out has to bring us one step closer to a Holodeck-like experience. Otherwise, what's the point? How else am I going to be able to geniunely experience World War II from the eyes of Eva Braun?

Yes it is. It continually tries to claim the crown as being the definitive console shooter, but IMO it was 4 years late for that. GoldenEye 007, the James Bond game on the N64 takes that prize.
If you speak with some people from Microsoft they'll tell you that Halo was the first FPS...some of them have their heads that far up their asses.

Totally agree on GoldenEye for the 64 being #1 for console shooters. Multplayer paintball mode ruled.

OK so the reviews have said it is the best in the series by far and the 4 player co-op is ace...

I have some shit to trade in so I might snag this and blops 2 with the proceeds.

indeed. This wasn't on my radar since Bungie is tops when it comes to worldbuilding. and 343's first project was.. Halo1 remake.
oh and Bungie ended the Halo story nicely. no need to open it up again.

now they're all saying it's a big a step up like H2 was to H1. now I needs to get it. someday, bit of a backlog going on atm :owned:

Yeah I have a backlog too but I do want a bit of mindless shooting, which is why I am getting Halo and COD. Dishonoured will be purchased as will Assassins Creed 3 (also getting awesome reviews) in the future.

I will be going into hermit mode after Christmas so a nice stash of games to play when I am not training will be good, though blops will be done before Christmas for sure

Lots of dumb in this thread. Halo was average at best, albeit fun. The CoD games have sold a shit ton of copies as well, but they pretty much suck ass. Every time I've given one of the recent versions a try and played the MP on XBL, I was literally inundated with a tidal wave of retards and 9 year-olds hell bent on proving how cool it is say "fuck" as creatively as possible while sounding like Alvin the Chipmunk. The logic behind the high sales numbers of games like this is obvious: They're easily played, fast-paced games that provide instant gratification to morons and little kids.

I've found Halo's floaty physics and repetitive gray/purple levels both irritating and boring. I might give this new one a chance, but I don't expect much. Well, I certainly expect another MP fucktard monsoon, but that pretty much goes without saying.

Halo Reach sp campaign was actually pfg. i imagine it's even better in 4 player coop, as each teammember has his/her own role in the story (and team).

Halo MP is deeper than one might expect at first glance. but you need veteran players to actually experience the depth.

Halo Reach SP campaign remains my favorite SP FPS game to date on legendary.

I get that people like different shooters, I'm not a fan of CoD games either and I get that Halo has floaty physics, that's Halo.

The way I judge a game isn't on personal preference. It's based on level design, graphics and gameplay applicable to it's style.

In that regard, Halo Reach is the best arcade style first person shooter on the xbox 360.

I'll be anxious to try Halo 4, it does look pretty.

Don't act surprised. You know there's bags of Doritos and lots of Mountain Dew involved.
