alright
opinions aside, your logic is flawed. "greates hits" means "best sold" and as you testify yourself, quantity does not mean quality.
the fact that a camp song like Who Wants To Live Forever sold better than Fat Bottomed Girls is simply because it was released at the right time to the right audience and that its more suitable for the mainstream. it doesnt say anything about musical prowess.

pick your favorite artist. then look at their best sold single. I doubt that you would argue that is also their best track, I'm even willing to wager you would argue that that track is nothing like the rest of their work.
u nose it to be troo

Yes, MKJ hit the nail on the head. The greatest hits is stuff released on singles and these are, by definition, songs that will sell well. Songs that sell well fit the pop music mould and are thus rarely musically exciting.

Also, I'm not saying Queen's later work is bad music. I do think they were a bit more experimental in their early days, but on their later albums, such as The Miracle there are still absolutely great songs. It's always a speculative discussion of "what would've happened if..."
I do have to say that I'm not sure if Queen would've remained as popular as they were in today's pop music world. On the other hand, they've shown that they weren't one trick ponies, so their music would probably have evolved with what's popular these days. If that's a good thing is up to decide for the beholder, but again, it's all purely speculative so you can't really say much about it. Oh and don't forget that the typical Queen songs you loathe like We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions are from the late 70's. Not exactly recent work.

Finally, I'm all for the discussion about what someone can like or dislike about a band, that's personal taste and there's nothing wrong with it. But one cannot simply dismiss a force the size of Queen to be insignificant or "terrible" because they were all exceptional musicians who, as a band, had a huge impact on the world of rock and pop music.

(yes, slow work day)

can't fucking stand them personally but aye, queen made some truly enduring pop songs and helped establish the pop video. and freddie was a real character and a great singer and performer.

like a lot of people, i've heard their less well-known stuff but still spent too much time being bored shitless by their hits over the tannoy at sports events and crappy awards shows. i think the important thing is how their legacy is best remembered - as that one scene from that movie mike mayers made back when he was still sort of funny, and the chorus that warns you that whatever else a paid entertainment event has in store, it won't actually involve rocking you in any way, shape or form. thinking about it - the other things that have thoroughly put me off them (beyond every serious queen fan i've ever met being a bit of a twat) are that heath ledger movie where he's a knight, and giorgio moroder's godawful version of metropolis.

anyway - this anniversary was mentioned on the radio yesterday, where some wanker was having a pop at freddie mercury for not having announced his illness sooner. that struck me as unfair, there was already a massive awareness campaign running at the time and i can imagine he was probably quite busy dying of aids. the way he handled it seemed right - tell everyone you've got aids, then keel over while the story's still fresh.

What we can take away from this thread is that Ryoki is a faggot and Eraser would be a boring cunt to socialise with in real life.
Thick, solid and tight in all the right places.

They're both cunts, then. ...

As for Freddie Mercury's death, IMO it's important to celebrate someone being alive on their birthday, rather than their having been alive on the anniversary of their death. Did you celebrate his birthdays while he was alive? Didn't think so. Me neither, but I wasn't a Queen fan and I'm not going on about an anniversary of someone's death like their death changed everything for me.

I expect some of you fans will be butthurt and call me a "cunt" for that, so in advance I say
"fuck u..."

That totally took a ton of time to think out, eh? Too much thought went into trashing that turd by tinkering with text.

also, because cunts die eventually, failure gets handed inevitable justice. known lamers merit no ordinary pisspoor quality retort, so they usually vex. why xerox yesterday's zingers?
