There is no effective treatment for pancreatic cancer. Definitely not unexpected at all. He had a short-term death sentence as soon as it was diagnosed.
I'll respectfully say RIP to Mr. Jobs, and to the millions of other people who have died from cancer. It's an ugly disease.

i'm under the impression that apple's early as well as the later success with the iStuff was mainly his innovations? atleast on a direction aspect. I wonder how much this will affect apple's future in the coming years and if it will still remain a smug, forward thinking and innovative company. Will be interesting to see if his lack of presence has a considerable effect.

I give Apple 5 years before the lack of the focus Jobs brought to the table takes them back to where they were when Gil Amelio was at the helm.

Whether you like him or not, he's still a huge historic figure in the development of personal computers and his legacy should be celebrated. Even if you're an opponent to his company and ideology, you can at least give him credit for bringing computers to the masses and providing competition and innovation to the market. Even if you have never owned an Apple product, that alone is something worth missing him for.

He was also about as philanthropic as Hitler. Hero worship is unhealthy.

There probably wouldn't have been a Windows if not for OS X and vice versa. Not sure about Linux, certainly wouldn't be what it is today.

I wouldnt be surprised if he has a 10 year plan stored somewhere in a vault and has by will&testimony appointed a few arbiters to safeguard these ideas.

Steve Jobs didn't see his life flash before his eyes because Apple products don't support Flash.
