Quake skills transfer very well to UT as long as it isn't that puck teleporting shit, I once knew a UT guy who thought he was some hot shit..i installed it and kicked his ass thoroughly my first time playing the game. He then proceeded to cry about me hogging the "special items". I guess UT noobs have never heard of map control
p.s. Hi riddla.

The only UT I play is the first, because... after playing Q3A... I needed something to excel at. Q3A, I'm a mid tuh low level player. Mainly, I play Monster Hunt. If I want to face experienced first person shooters... I go to Q3A. I play UT MH to know what it's like to work as a team. Free-for-all. Nothing beats Q3A.

I too am sorry if you were offended by these exchanges Neillithan
As to why Q4 didn't take off, well I still own and have played most 3D shooters, never really interested in the human war ones . Guess I just love the sci fi aspect.
Someone eluded to it above I think, the hardware upgrade bit (well I did that and bought Q4). Yes, there DTS said it all
So, in order to play Q4 you had to upgrade (needed or otherwise?) and it appears not too many did and they were really happy this the Q3 (yes online) game play. Play
QL and enjoy
There is still quite stiff 3D shooter industry competition out there also.
..... but hang around Neillithan

It didn't take off because it was made by Raven, and Raven couldn't make an up to date game if Gabe/Carmack/Cliffy B all took a creative shit in their mouthes...
Singularity will be the same. One single gimmick, but everything else could have been done 10 years ago...

I don't play the game so I don't know why it failed. You don't have to call me a moron for being unsure.
Don't be offended - it's his way of saying "I think I love you".

I wrote that in jest. (That's j-e-s-t. Not spelt g-e-s-t, get it?)
I've fixed the spelling error, though. Did you notice I got it right the second time in that quote?

Accept and you'll get the beating of a lifetime or deny and you'll get the pussy title. Oh, and you can't say you don't have the game as an excuse because it's 10 bucks on Steam. Do it.

Wait, winning at a videogame would somehow make you not be a moron? scared? is fucking amazing at Q3, as is Duhard and they're both total morons. I think the fact that you came here and started yapping about UT3 pretty much proves that you're a moron, moron.
Dutard is not awesome at Q3...but agreed on the moron front.

Actually, you might say that this is not so much irony, but poetic justice. That would be argueing semantics, though, right?

I think this is more of an issue of "dead on arrival" more than the game being good or bad. That's the problem with PC games anymore. All of the bad games get incredible hype and they're basically money generators. Then they try to cram DLC down our throats by way of paying for it. They purposely limit their game to a handful of multiplayer maps just to get us excited and then they drop a giant deuce on us when we want more. It's insulting.
As for why I think games like UT3 and Quake 4 failed, they just didn't get enough hype and became dead on arrival due to nobody actually being able to play the games on their aging hardware.
Now that several years have passed, our computers are getting to the point where they can play Quake 4 and UT3 at 50-60 fps at least. I know my PC can get 90-100 fps in UT3 and probably better in Quake 4. So, why aren't these games popular now? Nobody wants to play an old game that isn't popular.
This is what is sad about PC gaming right now. Nobody is willing to make a good game and give it an explosive release date. It's all about making a *decent* game and then completely abandoning it for some new thing. It's really irritating. Game companies have undervalued their PC gamer base by releasing console ports that barely add anything new and unique to our palette and that's why we refuse to buy their sh*tty games anymore.
Of course a lot of what I've said has exceptions, but I think it stands true for 90% of the games that get released nowadays.

UT3 failed because you couldn't see WTF was going on, and nerfing because it was geared towards consoles, and because it wasn't a good enough successor to UT2004 to drag people away. Much like UT2003 vs the UT99.

This. Sad, because they improved just about every weapon from UT2k4...and then they chucked it all into a baroque nightmare.
