i read a news story today that covered the leakage of Tiger early. i'm still debating purchasing it (student discount, of course) since i've not really used my Powerbook for a while. i've got Panther on it now. i'm thinking that it would probably actually slow my Powerbook G4 down installing that on it.

looks very cool, btw.

It would probably make your PBG4 run a bit faster. They're really optimizing the OS to take advantage of the Altivec engine on the G4 and G5 chips.

It runs faster than Panther on a 1ghz PB 12", worth the upgrade for the speed boost alone, just don't expect loads of goodies, more like updates to existing software (Safari/Mail etc) and lots of under-the-hood tweaks (coreimage/coreaudio etc).

According to Activity Monitor the widgets only use cpu when you open dashboard (f12) and things like the weather are only updated when dashboard is open, so they're not updating in the background all the time and opening dashboard is only the same sort of cpu overhead that expose has.

There's a preview movie of it at Apple dot com. The 'opening widget' animation is pretty slick :icon31:

Good news.
My girlfriends AlBook 867 is a tad pokey, but it's still on 10.2.x. I think an upgrade to Tiger is in order.

The speed boost is a big seller for me, I always use OS 9 for Photoshop cause it's just so much faster. OS X is pretty pokey, that's the only thing that bugs me about it.

os9 is a fucking joke
8.6 is great, as was 7.5.5.
7.5.3 and 8.0/1 were very, very bad. but not as bad as os9. christ
