Skyboxes and blocking view into other rooms?

I usually see a lot of maps with mountains but somehow the textures on it look way better than the ones i use, the textures blend I guess and it looks nice. It'd be nice to know how that is done but a lot of the tutorial links are dead in the sticky topic..
