Here's an interesting and chilling thought:
What if elements in our government knew EXACTLY how much oil there was left in the world, and decided that they needed to secure more oil reserves to keep the US economy moving? To this end, they allowed an attack, about which they had full knowledge, to occur to provide "justification" for an invasion of Iraq. Oil a-plenty, and Israel benefits from one less enemy over the backyard fence.
Now, knowing that the entire world is pissed off, they know that the same bullshit excuses won't work for Phase 2 of Operation: Grab All The Fucking Oil, they decide that they're willing to allow a nuke to be detonated in a major US city. Right after this happens, they blame Iran, and the invasion commences. More oil, one less enemy for Israel.

In my opinion, that's basically what happened. Except that they knew no group of cave-dwelling terrorists would ever be able to make it through our air defenses, so they planned 4 different training exercises that pulled all our fighter jets away from the east coast on that day, and they pre-emptively set up an emergency FEMA command quarters in NYC to deal with the damage. Dick Cheney kept it up operationally from WTC building 7, which is why they had to set fire and collapse it.

The one part that you do have wrong, is that it's not going to take a nuke for us to attack Iran. All it will take is for Israel to attack Iran and get a war started, then we'll have no choice but to help our "ally."

I don't really agree with your first statement, but I concede the second point. One thing that does have me worried is that Iran Freedom Foundation thing that Goof posted the other day. It's as if there's a fear-mongering campaign about the Iranian nuclear boogeyman underway already.

Well, it's only one very small step away from what you stated in your post earlier, as far as criminal involvement. And all those things did happen exactly as I described them, as a matter of public record, aside from my conjectures on who controlled the events.

But about 5 months before 9-11, Bush issued an executive order that gave Cheney control of all military training and emergency management. It's not a large step for me at all.

And, IMO, if this sort of thing had been debated for the last 4 years, we would have had time to decide whether a pre-emptive war for oil was in our interests as a nation. Instead, we are still blindly following these oil tycoons into wherever and whatever they're taking us, all the while just bitching and babbling about the differences between the "warmongers" and the "treehuggers" amongst us, when it is a completely irrelevant discussion.

We are a useless population right now for not talking about the facts, and we are going to wind up wherever Cheney and Bush (in that order) decide to take us. And if they want to take us to Iran, then they will find a way to do it, and they will find a way to make a large enough part of the population want it. All the while, no serious national debate will exist about the strategy of our energy war.
