Fuck...I never thought for an instant to put in high performance anti-freeze.
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Jesus andy, do you dust very often?
I'm sure liquid cooling is a nice option regardless of oc'ing or not - and i don't disagree with the simple premise that cooler parts == longer lived parts. I'm confident that my $27 Arctic Cooling fan will keep this thing well enough cooled for as long as I'll use it. If I gamed more often and was putting the machine through hardcore work all the time, I'd definitely consider it. But for my usage, I just don't see the price really being worth it.

mix a bit of the water wetter with regular water for best performance, enough to turn it pink

Variation in temperature is a bigger issue than "heat", in most cases. It's better to keep it in a certain range, even if that range is a few degrees higher than your average when it varies a lot.
This is, in my opinion, the biggest argument for water cooling, running your PC 24/7, and even running a distributed computing client when idle, all of which keep your processor at a more "normalized" temperature.

Which is why I've heard (due to cold components warming up quickly) that the worst thing you can do to your computer is to turn it on.creep wrote:Variation in temperature is a bigger issue than "heat", in most cases. One of the things I've noticed in all liquid cooling reviews is the temperature difference between idle and full load...it's pretty much the same temp with water cooling while most fan coolers have the CPUs running 20 C hotter under load than idle.

Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
indeed! i had my TT Big water SE on my Athlon 64 3200+ clocked at 2300mhz, and my idle would be 28, and my load would be 32... it was great.GONNAFISTYA wrote:Which is why I've heard (due to cold components warming up quickly) that the worst thing you can do to your computer is to turn it on.creep wrote:Variation in temperature is a bigger issue than "heat", in most cases. De-ionized water, actually... Not just Tap/distilled water.. Well, unless you want your water cooling parts to rot..andyman wrote:mix a bit of the water wetter with regular water for best performance, enough to turn it pink
i've been meaning to put my water setup in my main box, thats not much of an issue atm due to my mobo being off on a RMA... yay!
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Well, no fucking amount of pushing and forcing it would make that arctic cooling thing lock down - even going diagonal, each time one plastic nub would lock down another would pop out. I took the mobo out to try and still no luck, the problem was the pins just didn't line up PERFECTLY with the holes, so there was always a bit of angular force pulling then inwards a tad. I tried until I almost (if not definitely) damaged the board. Gave up, now the processor has the pre-applied thermal goop from the arctic cooling fan already on it. I just went ahead and threw the stock fan on for now. I left the thermal paste on there for now and may now be looking at another cooling solution. I am so pissed off at that fan right now I cannot see straight.

Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Since we are on the topic of PC parts.
Right now I have a BFG GeForce 8800GTX OC 600MHZ 768MB 1.8GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out HDCP DIRECTX10 Video Card.
I think the place I ordered it from no longer has them, since I've been waiting almost 5 weeks for it.
Thanks god I have one already.
Anyways I might tell them to send me 2 BFG GeForce 9600GT OCX 725MHZ 512MB 1.95GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card and keep the 8800 GTX for my server, or sell it.
2 of these would be nice:
BFG GeForce 9800GTX H2OC 780MHZ 512MB 2.32GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out Video Card, but then I think I'd have to upgrade my cooling system which would probably run around $400.
The 9600 are only $208 a piece and the later one is $389 each. I think I might go with the 9600 and get a 3rd one later one.
And my mother board in case you are wondering is a Maximus Extreme.

Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Look up the reviews on it. Was very well received by all the places that benchmarked it.andyman wrote:YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FORtnf wrote: I'm confident that my $27 Arctic Cooling fan will keep this thing well enough cooled for as long as I'll use it.

except the one place it mattered... your mobotnf wrote:very well received

im just sayin... gl with it
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
i'll get another fan. and i'll use my computer just as long as I would and often as I would and for the same stuff as I would were I to pay for a liquid cooling system.

Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Yea I'm using it right now as I update drivers and get the fan speed fix taken care of for the 4870.
Haven't installed any games on it yet.
