Yea, if you graduate high school you can go to a 4-year university, or some people choose to go to a 2-year community college or trade school. Either way you have to have a high school diploma. To get in the college/university (they are the same thing here in the states), you also have to be accepted by the school. When you apply, they look over your grades and school records and determine if you meet the criteria of their school. It can be fairly expensive, depending on which school you go to. Going for 4 years worth of classes will get you a bachelors degree in your discipline (which is called 'undergraduate' studies). You can then go back if you choose for 'grad school' and get a masters or later a phd if you choose. There are different types of degrees, but I'm not really sure what all of them require.

And the public school system up through high school pretty much is a joke here. I graduated high in my class, and got the same scolarship our salutatorian got, to the same school. But I never really studied much of anything; just paid attention in class and so did really well on all the tests.

In other words, I was totally unprepared for the work I'd have to do in college. I loaded up on 21 hours of advanced classes per semester and lost my scolarship because I didn't have much of a work ethic and my grades suffered for it.

Public schools are different everywhere in the States though, because the schools are regulated by each state with different rules and standards, for the most part.

you dont even have to have finished secondary school. its a test to see if you have the mental capacity of a VWO student and know at least the gist of what i taught in VWO.

there are many other ways dude, you could go to have, get your "propedeuse" and hop go to university. or you could do mavo... then do mbo then get your "propedeuse" at hbo and go on to university.

spent my entire Jr. High in Wa., then moved to Oregon for High School, so i was never a freshman until college. \o/

i have a few years on you and tnf so i think it depends on the district. I went to high school in 9th grade. but I remember other areas not starting till 10th.
