aye. the same story over here might be about a knife or a golf club but i don't see it being any different. you have to nip things like that in the bud. if you call the police, it's only going to be a long, dangerous wait and a massive amount of pointless fucking about - then it's likely nothing will be done anyway and the situation will carry on.

that and the part about the lad grabbing the gun being pointed at him - that's just natural selection and justice working as a team.

That man was obviously totally justified in what he did and anything other than a complete acquittal would be a goddamn travesty of justice.

Also, i understand where NS is coming from with the statement about 911 and i mostly agree - but surely it wouldn't hurt to both confront the problem and call the police. You don't have to hide inside your house like some kind of frightened rodent if you call the cops... Shit, in hindsight he should probably have called just so he could say he did.

the problem with that is that the police will tell you go inside and stay there - so whoever's attacking you is free to do what they want for however long it takes the police to arrive, and anything you do in response will be against the advice of the police and potentially get you into legal trouble later on.

i'm not saying that they shouldn't be called at all, just that it's worth doing any reasonable risk minimisation first.

Hmm, perhaps. I sorta doubt the kind of legal trouble you could get into by ignoring police advice on a matter like that, in a country where you are justified to shoot if someone trespasses, but i see your point.

So the police in a predominantly white neighborhood are going to help a black family? no. You can try and tell yourself that the other way is true, but it's not what happens.

QFT. It doesn't have to be either/or, NS. Though hiding in your house wouldn't be such a bad idea. If they break in, and they might not, you're not in much more danger than if you confronted them outside, and I'd have thought you'd be in a much stronger position legally.

It's one thing to say there's bias in the police force. It's something else entirely to say you'd rather take on a whole murderous gang beseiging your home than seek their help.
