Tyson never took any punishment. I mean, boxers don't take any punishment in all those years of training and fighting it takes to become a multiple world champion. I doubt Tyson had ever received a punch at all before his first professional defeat.
And even if he ever did take punishment, he couldn't handle it like Ali, just ask Puff. Plus Tyson was a literal sloth, I've never seen a boxer move so slow.
ROFL...
Yeah, because that's exactly what he meant. Yeah, every boxer goes through the stages. Tyson had his days in the gym and in the sun, and his training. But, Ali took it to another level, a level that Tyson can't reach. I think Ali would have owned Tyson in a bad way. His technique was superior to Tyson's and I don't think Tyson would have had the chance to land the "winning punch" as easily as he might have liked. Same as when Tyson fought Holyfield.

As it's already been said and I'm just beating a dead horse-- it pretty much boils down to this. Tyson has the one knockout punch ability but apart from that, Ali pretty much outclasses Tyson. Ali is taller, faster, smarter, has longer reach, better technique, etc. Ali would come out with a gameplan that exploits Tyson's weaknesses while playing to his own strengths and Tyson would not have much to fall back on if he failed to deliver the knockout punch and/or once he got tired.
I think Ali would probably outlast and outclass Tyson.
But I see a lot of people talking about how fast Ali was, as if Tyson were slow. Tyson was lightning fast in his prime - maybe faster than Ali. Tyson's weakness was that he didn't have a brain. If he'd had the smarts to build winning strategies against his opponents, he would have kept winning for a long, long time.
But he's stupid. Ali was smart and knew how to tailor his strategy to his opponent. Against a one-dimensional fighter like Tyson, I think that asset along with the rest (reach, strength, stamina, speed) would have carried him through and left Iron Mike looking unprepared.
