I thoroughly enjoyed it. I know the gameplay is pretty much identical to earlier games like Quake II (and other 90s fps games), but in my book, there's nothing wrong with that.

And if that's the case, the game's style; its art direction, the graphics (of course), the sounds; the general presentation -- they're all pretty much at the highest calibur I've ever seen in a pc game. The only other single player game that even could hope to compete in that area is Half-Life 2, which I also like very much.

But since it was designed, in part, to appeal to the masses, you have to endure quite a lot of really retarded parts in the game. For instance, walking into fifty different rooms where everybody in there is like, "Well what the F! It's GOOORDAN FREEMAN!!" and all that garbage. The way the characters behave is pretty Disney sometimes. :(

But anyway, that's OT. My point is, DOOM 3 owns pretty dang hard. And even though the expansion wasn't completely created by id, I completely expect it to carry on the excellence of the first game.

Maybe they're still releasing it on CDs to appeal to a wider audience (some people still might not have DVD drives?)
Doesn't make sense. if you've got a PC capable of running D3, you've got a DVD drive.

They've been shipping as standard since about 2000 or so?

maybe the blue and red thingy is like the one in q3, showing the staus of the flag, and who eventually has it.

The hands are pretty kewl because they switch from normal to old/infested when you suck life from bodies...

Anyway, the double barrel shotgun is my fav..

The "grab gun" is kinda nice, but thats so last year alá HL2.. the MP and the CTF maps is boring, and one weird thing is that id put in some kind of an auto forward jump that kicks in on your second jump... and i havent found away to disable it.
VERY odd..

Playing the sp campaign now.. its still dark as hell, you´re still alone(so far that i have come) and you still have to find that pda and that keycard to gain access to this door and this door... :puke:

So are there any new maps made specifically for duels?

Are all of the new maps ctf?

There are 4 or 5 standard dm/tdm maps.. four of them are themed hell/construction site.. and they suck.
And there is also the 8 player feature now.. but you all already knew that.

So, what's the final count, five ctf maps, five dm/tdm/whatever maps?

Yup, just picked up my copy at Best Buy today. On sale for $29.99 (Canadian). Think it was on sale since March 30 or 31.

Edit: I think Elizabeth McNeil looks a lot nerdier than I was expecting... the way all the UAC scientists were hitting on her in the first part... WTF?

Sad for the glasses, especially after the kick ass shades from the dude in the D3 lol

Its pretty sweet so far, but ive only played about 3 lvls or so. The grabber is great. Theres no shortage of shit to throw around. Theres a lot more action. A shit ton of monsters will spawn, and you use hell time to slow everything down, then you can whip out the grabber and snatch fireballs out of the sky from every which way and launch them back. Theres also a new arcade game that owns Super Turkey Puncher called Sarges Big Game Hunt. The double barrel shotgun feels heavy as hell. I havent come across any monster closets.

Also as far as the story goes, I think they are starting to push the virus thing.

Oh and didnt they say they were going to have a shoulder mounted flashlight? They lied.

haha, I hit a monster closet.

That DB Shotty looks awfull... God... UGH...

Anyways, you get a hazmat suit or something, thats what has the flashlight. I hope thats still true.

Also, thanks Doomer, you killed this for me already by saying "monster closit". Can nobody fucking learn that those things are what made Doom 3 so bad in the first place? God damn devs...

You get a helmet with a flashlight on it for 1 part, where you have to go into the toxic waste. Thats where the hazmat guys are. the double shotty is great. best gun in the game. Theres not as many monster closets, the demons usually teleport in which is pretty much the same thing.

Bummer. Sure, i knew the DB shotty would be great to "use" but i also had a feeling it would look a tad funky.

Shame that the massive problesm with the last game are back (monster closits, teleporting in etc).

Ill hvae it in a little bit, so i can find out for myself :(

I still like it though. Demons dont just teleport in, an whole goddamn army teleports in. it gets pretty nuts, kinda like old school doom. The guys who end up replacing the imps are assholes.

One thing they should have done differently is making the hunters look different. They are just variations of hell knights. Pretty uninspired.

Hellanoid had me stuck for atleast 20 mins.. fun as hell, made it to level 3 before i had to move on.
The sarge game is kinda kewl with the bears... but hellanoid is a classic :icon31:

So this is where we've come to now? Games within games?

you know it,

also, ID isent the only one doing it, if im not mistaken there was talk about putting in a minigame within Solid snake. all you had to do was save the game at a certan point and restart the game, load.. and p00m, arkinoid..
but they later changed it to some wierd homebrew game.

:p I think I've seen that in a few games actualy. But usualy you either couldn't play them or it'd load another screen, that looks like you just walk up in game and start playing which is kinda neat.

Its ok. Nothing amazing though. Its miles better than Doo m3, and the scare factor is a LOT better. But overall, its more of the same :( And the grabber sucks, its so bad to use, way more naff than HL2's... I took some pics anyways while playing:
