All the samples have to be completely removed by sanding them off. It's a little extra work, but better than having it look different than the samples because of the woods character.Unisaw wrote:Nice work. Can I ask a question? When you put down sample stains, you permanently changed the color unless you sand them all over. Did you have to sand them or did you just stain over the samples?
Sanded and stained, a few coats of poly on top and she'll be good to go... almost there...

Far better yes, but it's not ownership. Even after the loan is paid, if you're subject to property taxes, it's a reminder that you don't really own your land but you're renting it from your friendly neighborhood government.horton wrote:better than paying rent for 30 years and having nothing to show for it at the end of the payments.riddla wrote:lol, if you're paying a mortgage you're not quite a homeowner but simply leasing it from the bank for 30+ years.
Just an observation, not trying to get soap-boxy here.
property taxes= rates, yes?Massive Quasars wrote:

rates= the amount you pay each year to local/state government which is based on the lands value (and the services you recieve, garbage collection, sewage, water etc) according to the government
this is why you have tenants and negative gearing

I understood. I was just saying that in my case it's just not a big deal. But yeah, if you don't pay they will come take your shit. Not really yours.Massive Quasars wrote:That's not my point.Scourge wrote:Property taxes are relatively small in most cases. Mine are around $650 a year. I can live with that pretty easily.
It's among the closest things we have to a mere existence tax. Quite different from a tax on consumption.
Just clarifying.

I don't like the concept either. But if it weren't for property taxes, I have to wonder how many of the super-rich would just hoard land.Massive Quasars wrote:That's not my point.Scourge wrote:Property taxes are relatively small in most cases.
