I like the idea of being able to just walk to the post office, not having a lot of noise and being able to go across town without getting into a traffic jam.

After dealing with the South Boston metro traffic, I'll never go within 100 miles of a big city again.
Ditto. Except that I imagine I'll be living near a large city, but I won't live IN one. After I finish school I plan on moving and it'll probably be outside Boston. Agh.
:icon14:

I would also like to live near a big city. Problem with living in a big city is that its annoying as hell doing anything...going grocery shopping is a pain. driving down the road is a pain. everything becomes a hassle. also people have a tendancy to be jerkish. problem with a small town is that you dont have the diversity and exotic bits of culture that a big city can provide. if i want to have spend time at a Japanese marketplace, I can only do that in a big city. Or if I want to go see a limited release film, i can only do that in a big city. also im really big into Chinatowns and only big cities have decent ones.

so...compromise...live near a big city and its all gravy.

If I didn't like Rotterdam that much, I would live in Amsterdam. It's like a small village, but big, and gay, and lots of tourists. It's just gay.

well, first mistake is calling boston a big city, i lived there for 8 years. second, boston has some of the worst traffic in history. because of the big dig roadways shut down, are switched directions, or are only open certain hours thus making you take some stupid assfuck detour down by the design center and the south end. it's nuts. i messengered there for a few years and there were evenings after work i would go to the bar and then try to ride down the streets i had been riding down all day only to find they're torn up or running in the opposite direction.

boston is essentially a large college town. what makes the traffic even worse is the people living on both shores driving to work in an already congested city street layout, no grid. the t does the job but doesn't run very late. it's also quite expensive to live there.

edit: i forgot to address the fuckwits that don't pay attention...um, that was probably just the tourists.

It's not the easiest town to live in though. Lots of big city problems.
