However, I disagree that the bill will be killed as soon as the gang leaves office. These kinds of things have a way of hanging around and being abused repeatedly. Remember, once power is gained, it is hardly ever relinquished again volutarily.
exactly.
there's no sunset clause and to claim it'll be killed when they leave is moranic

Just in case you haven't been paying attention, the Bush camp doesn't give a fuck about laws or signed acts of government. They can twist the laws (quickly I might add) to their favor and get on with business. And those in "the party" will work to conceal/dismiss any inference of wrong doing far into the future to save national embarrassment.
FFS man...are you telling me when the Bushies get out the problem will go away? You yourself know what's going on the background to keep the GOP in power. What you're wishing for won't happen until nobody is alive to atone for it....like in 50 - 1000 years.

During a December 1st debate in Chicago with Notre Dame professor and international human rights scholar Doug Cassel, John Yoo gave the green light for the scope of torture to legally include sexual torture of infants.
Is there a source to back up this claim? Not that I think it's out of the realm of possibility, but something like that screams for support.

The constitution is a living document when it needs to be, and a static one when it's otherwise convenient.

I'm on the edge, but I haven't lost total faith in our system yet. When this hits the supreme court, it will be killed outright by a large majority vote. It is patently unconstitutional.
I'll commence wailing and gnashing of teeth otherwise, but I still believe in the judiciary making the correct decision about maters as fundamentally challenging to the condtitution as this.
This shit may continue to go on, but it will not remain codified law for long.

You're lucky water boarding isn't possible over the internet or you'd be soaked. I think it's only fair since we've had to endure your torturous posts for the last 12 years.

I'm not a dumb yank bastard. I'm a dumb yank bitch. And as for your alleged chubby...give the wee little lad a pat on the helmet for me.

Yes, but then what will happen? Will the Justices themselves walk over to the Hill, rip up the bill with their bare hands, and then shackle the President and carry him out on a rail?
Remember, the Executive branch is the one that enforces the law.
Unless someone can actually get these guys in a federal courthouse as defendents, Supreme Court decisions are just more shouts into the wind.
Which brings us back to Congress, and the 2006 elections. And Democrats who, even if given the power, may still continue to be as spineless as they have been for the last 5 years.
But I can hope they won't.

It looks like it was a small victory for the opponents of this bill:
Senate Wins Fight To Lower Allowable Amperage Levels On Detainees' Testicles
"Even in times of war, it is counterproductive and wrong to employ certain inhumane interrogation techniques, and using three-digit amperage levels on the testicles of captives constitutes torture," said Sen. John Warner (R-VA), who has also supported reducing the size of attack dogs and the height of nude pyramids.
