Miami Vice was awesome--the gun battle at the climax was almost as good as the street battle in Heat. The sounds in the gunfight were absolutely incredible (as usual in Mann's work). Colin Farrel and Jamie Foxx didn't have the greatest onscreen chemistry going, but they did drive that hotass Carerra GT around a lot. There were a few times where Mann kept making aspect-to-aspect cuts between a character and whatever that character is looking at, and he would end up lingering on these reaction shots (which had been cross-cut to for the second or third time already) for a few seconds too long... if he had cut down on that a little bit I think that a few pacing issues that Vice suffered from would have been alleviated and the movie would have probably ended being about ten or twenty minutes shorter. But whatever--Mann is the fucking man, and Miami Vice was awesome. A+++ would watch again.
I'm going to see Vice this week. Have you seen Collateral and Heat? Heat has the most realistic gun battle I've ever seen.
Collateral was one of the films we studied in my film class this summer. I had no idea how detailed Mann gets with the backstory of all the characters, even though you never see most of it in the film. Wackjob Cruise was talking about all the shit that Vincent had gone through as a child, etc., etc. Very detailed stuff.

ror nightshade I made a comparison to Heat in the second sentence of my post--yeah I've seen it. Many times. One of my favorite films. I always love how every time I watch it, it gets to the climax at the bank robbery, and it just builds up so fucking high that I get to thinking "oh yeah, the bank robbery, it's almost over" and I get sad and cry because it's going to be over and no more awesome movie... but then I remember "hope, there's another hour and a half of awesomeness after this"

Heh, I keep wishing DeNiro woould get away...
I do so love it when Pacino pops Tom Sizemore right between the running lights with the HK 92.

I've seen Heat about 30 times and I keep thinking they are going to make it. The setup and execution of the robbery scene is that good.

You are correct, O Loony One. It's the HK91 to which I refer.
