Oh, and lest I forget:
brisk wrote:And another question:
I have a v small bg image which creates the interlace effect you see. However, I have a problem with normal images which aren't transparent and show this interlacing underneath (even if I use a transparent gif)
Is that something else which can be overcome?

I have a background image embeded into the HTML (which is about 2x3 pixels in size and used to create the interlace effect).
Now imagine I have a transparent gif which I will be using for that gradient to the left. I will want it to fade from gray into transparency.
However, when I use transparency in a GIF image, it isn't transparent (i'm guessing because of that damn bg image)
Hope this makes sense.

gifs dont have translucency, only transparency. since an alpha gradient will go from opaque to transparect using different levels of translucency, the gif will just flatten all translucent 'steps' with the matte color (which is white in this case).
in other words, it wont work. a PNG would do the trick but guess what browser doesnt support PNG translucency...
the only way you are going to get this is by adding the scanlines to the gradient gif and then hope it matches up with the browser background (which it most likely wont since youre using a liquid page).

oh and you might want to use a bigger bgimage. the visual result will be the same but using a tiny bg image to fill up an entire page eats rendering time & memory. ofcourse theres also the case you go too big which will eat memory too

make it 20x20 or summat, or even more horizontal to reduce tiling (300x20)

Ah yes, silly me. I think i'll just leave it - not really that noticable anyway.
