Most of the id card systems (read: biometrics) are coming into force this year on UK passports anyway.

arse, it won't make a lick of difference to immigration. and i don't like the proposal for id cards because it's a thoroughly stupid idea.

politicians keep citing the french as an example - have you ever seen a french id card? it's just a scrap of paper with some shit written on it. they're talking about your biometric data, being stored in a centralised database. a database managed by people that've already blown nearly 30bn quid of taxpayers on bollocksed up projects.

it's more than likely that they'll mix your data up with some kiddie fiddler's and then nick you next time you try and spend some bloody air miles. it's no different to now, where we've got systems that send council tax bills to dead people and massively overpay tax refunds.

and do you really trust our government and all the companies that work for them to treat your data confidentially? any enterprising shiteater that gets access to the database is going to flog chunks of it to the first market researcher they run into. and do you trust them not to just give it to the yanks the moment they ask for it?
