DependsYourGrandpa wrote:WTF are you laughing at? He said he was trying to build a cheap computer. The specs he listed wouldn't come near to needing a 480watt PSU. Since a 300watt PSU would be cheaper, I made the suggestion of too much PSU.SOAPboy wrote:YourGrandpa wrote:Sounds like you've got too much PSU for that system. And do you really need a wireless NIC?
You might have cut a few bucks off the price.
to much psu?
You wont notice any difference beyond 2 second faster boot time on sata..riddla wrote:soapboy gives the most backwards-ass computer advice on this forum. I dont sit at home on my mom's dime all day and play WoW, I'm actually paid to know these things - yes MidnightQueerX4 you're wrong. The burden of proof is on you - stumble ahead.

A) If you're shopping around. You'll always find a cheaper, less wattage PSU.SOAPboy wrote: Depends
A) Where you shop
B) If it was laying around anyways
C) If it came with the case
You can NEVER have to much psu, and ploping a slightly bigger one in for a whole 3 or 4 dollars more isnt the worst idea in the world..
So, when the "shlub" goes "ohh this looks pretty" and starts adding lights and shit? or adding dvd burners, ect?YourGrandpa wrote:A) If you're shopping around. You'll always find a cheaper, less wattage PSU.SOAPboy wrote: Depends

B) He didn't say it was laying around.
C) He could have bought a cheaper case/PSU combo.
You can have too much PSU when you don't or never will need the extra power. If you're spending two or three more dollars on the PSU, why not spend a few more dollars on the memory and a few more dollars on a drive? I'll tell you why. BECUASE YOU'RE TRYING TO SAVE MONEY. Which is quite the opposite of spending a few more dollars on something. Besides, he's not building the PC for himself. He's building it for some shlub that dosen't know much or need much.
He'll fry his shit and have to pay to build a new one. Job security.SOAPboy wrote:So, when the "shlub" goes "ohh this looks pretty" and starts adding lights and shit? or adding dvd burners, ect?YourGrandpa wrote:A) If you're shopping around.
