I think there's frantic unscientific information absolutely swarming all over the whole holocaust tragedy.

To deny it happened is stupid, but equally stupid is the blind beleif that everything everyone says happened in it is true.

Either way, it's hard to learn from a historical event which hasn't had due scientific/historical analysis/documentation performed/created for it.

I'd have thought if you stuck any number people in one of those chambers and pumped it full of Zyclon-B for half an hour you'd kill the lot.

:)

I visited Theresienstad near Prague which was also used as a model camp at the beginning of the war and as a deathcamp later on, and some awful awful place in the French Alpes. Supposed to be the kind of camp where people would be round up before being transported further, but the place actually looked ten times worse than Theresienstad.

History's always told from the winner's perspecitve ain't it. That said, from looking at what's at these places none of the stories told seem too far fetched.

I vaguely remember hearing about those places, didn't they just end up being used as death camps towards the end?

David Irving is a known Hitler apologist. He idolizes Hitler. Rumor has it that Irving use to dress up like Hitler (mustache and hair and all) while writing his books in Florida.

Irving's achielles heel, however, is that he often times lets slip his own personal bias into his first rate, well researched journalistic endeavors. The guy does his homework (and then some) as indicated by the long "archival sources" section at the end of each of his works.

The issue with David Irving is that he sometimes can suggest "revisionist" theories all so subtely embedded in his masters prose. He is also quick to point out that many well-known "facts" regarding the Holocaust are not well documented or documented at all. He tends to argue that since no information is written about certain subjects on paper, then therefore the subject may be the work of hearsay or the placebo effect.

This is a dangeruous stand to take considering the overwelming eye-witness reports usually tendered by such events.

I was browsing through the "Debate" forum over at the Prussian Blue fansite after someone posted the link, and it amazes me how angry a lot of holocaust deniers get. One "rebuttal" I read started with: "Well, the thing you have to understand is that most Jews are good liars..."

also Irving is a moron.

"...the greater the number of Jews liquidated, the more consolidated will the situation in Europe be after this war."

Joseph Goebbels, March 6, 1942

"The procedure is a pretty barbaric one and not to be described here more definitely. Not much will remain of the Jews. On the whole it can be said that about 60 per cent of them will have to be liquidated whereas only about 40 per cent can be used for forced labor."

Joseph Goebbels, March 27, 1942

"Short shrift is made of the Jews in all eastern occupied areas. Tens of thousands of them are liquidated."

Joseph Goebbels, April 29, 1942

"There is no explicit reference ... to liquidation of Jews."

"Revisionist" David Irving, April 22, 1988, as quoted* on the web site of the "revisionist" Ernst Zündel

I was there when it was cold, damp, and exceptionally foggy. It really emphasized the depressive atmosphere. Walking around there was really creepy.
