That's the princilpe, after which I built my bridge.
Try to make all connections in a way which avoids strong shear forces (glue usually can't endure much of shear forces). Therefore also try to do with as few connections as possible, the connections are weak points. In my bridge all plain surfaces between the struts were reinforced by cardboard which especially helped the pressure loaded struts not to buckle and break. Maybe you can accomplish this by adding zigzag struts or crossings.
