3DMark Scores:
Radeon: 6395/5328/3556
Geforce: 3281/2027/N/A

Err.... so, so far, if the ATI card can be modded as said, it utterly smokes the nVidia.

it's so not even close there is no benchmarks with the x800xl and the 6600gt.

it compares to the 6800gt, and does not get OMGNVFANBOI owned by it either.
A) 6800GT is faster, EVERYONE knows this
B) I wouldnt trust that site as far as i could throw it..

If Bob, Jim, or Frank wanted a brand spanking new videocard, as in top of the line, id tell them to wait until the games dropped this month and we saw benchmarks..

If They said, Hey i want to spend 200 or less, id tell them to buy a 6800GT or 6800, because ATI DROPPED THE FUCKING BALL LAST GEN..

On the x800XL: The 3DMark scores on that card are 4993/4193/2777

Still smashes the 6600GT.

It can, which is great i suppose, but does he WANT to mod it..

shadd is right about the X800 XL.
Since it came out, it's been the best product in its pricing segment. That has been challenged since the 6800GT dropped in price (after the 7800 series came out), but it's still a damn fine card. Both it and the 6800GT are good all around.

However, if like he mentioned he's most concerned about Doom 3 engine games, I'd go with the 6800 GT. Followed by the X800XL, followed by the 6600GT if it's all he can afford.

All you have to do is click a couple buttons in Windows and bam, 16 pipes and higher clocks. There's no reason not to at least unlock the pipes. If you're concerned about cooling or power consumption, you can leave the clocks at stock and still have a nice 20% or so performance boost.

Soap, read before posting again please. This counters your point about there not being any benchmarks, and it also shows that the 6800 and x800XL are very similar in terms of benchmark scores. The 800XL even does slightly better than the geforce at higher settings.

Not even going to bother clicking.. One week he has X card as faster, next week the other one is.. he never sticks to his first review..

I guess mocking my source was your only option on this one, except for swallowing some pride.

You haven't called me a fanboy yet. That's probably got some mileage in it.

ok first things first. this argument wasn't really about the modded card. i could understand someone not wanting to do it.

it was about x800xl and 6600gt. he said they could be had for the same.

the benches i posted were not to state the x800xl can beat the 6800gt, it was just shown to show x800xl over 6600gt.

of course soapboi just auto assumed i'm a retarded fanboi like himself and starts telling us how good the 6800gt is.

I was reading the Toms hardware review and the only D3 review they did was with 8x AF. I'd like to see some numbers at stock (which is what most of us run at anyways).

After checking Canadian prices the 800XL is hovering between $400 and $500 and only seems to come in PCI-E (which the vast majority of people, myself included, haven't upgraded to yet). That's hardly a budget card when a 6600GT can be had for less than half the price and performs admirably.

thats probly the 512meg x800xl youre looking at. the x850xtpe was going for 450$cnd at futureshop. dunno if it still is.

anyways i never looked for prices. he said he could get it for the same as the 6600gt so i never bothered looking it up.

Newegg only sells one AGP 6600GT 256MB. It's $180.

They have four AGP X800XL 256MB. They range from $275 (before $30 mail in rebate, $245 after) to $315.

$245 for an X800XL is great bang for your buck. It's got a lot more potential than the 6600GT. And for $100 more before rebate, $70 after, I think it's a better choice. Not to mention the one and only 256MB 6600GT is out of stock...So you'd have to settle for a 128MB most likely.

Sorry guys. I get a bit confused trying to read all of these. Mostly I get the Nvidia vs ATI. I don't really care. I've always bought ATI, but if Nvidia has a better card for the same price, I will go that way/

Check out the tom's hardware link. Easy graphical reference for all the cards' performance.

Many cards listed in this benchmark, should give you a good idea.

need to get a new gfx card for my works machine (which i may or may not spend too much time playing games on).

ran pc wizard and it's:

msi k7n2 mobo
2 x 512mb pc3200
2163MHz AMD Athlon XP

don't want to spend more than £150 on a gfx card for it since i guess it could use another gig of ram as well - would a 6600 run d3/bf2 well enough on it - or would one of those ati doofers be better?
