From the dozens upon dozens of American families I've met and the hundreds of waitresses/store clerks/gas pump attendants I've met over the years in the US I would say 85-90% are completley fucking clueless.

I'm not one to say some statistic inclusively represents everyone, but the MAJORITY of Americans believe creationism should be taught. So it does represent the average American. I'm not trying to be biased against the US, though -- I do believe most of the world is quite dumb.
