It OCed pretty damn well. I had to solder the jumpers on the motherboard in order to do it, though.

My first computer that was all mine was a 386 DX with 8 megs of ram and an 80 meg HDD. Later on I upgraded it with a sound card and a CD-ROM. I also added a Trident Blade graphics card with 1 meg of memory on it.


Now I have a AMD 64bit 3200+ with 1.5 gigs of memory, 120gig SATA drive and a 10,000 rpm SCSI at 34 gigs. Video is a BFG 6800 GT OC.

heh remember when you had to actually do calculations with the motherboard jumpers to determin internal multiplication of FSB.


I hated it when intel autolocked the chips and there was no way to overclock as most mobo's didnt allow you to up the FSB in the bios screens at all......


I once saw a guy liquid cool his K5 on overclockers.com which he got running, if memory serves me rightly, at around 350 - 400, somewhere around there. He basically had to squirt liquid nitrogen on the thing to keep it from immediately burning out on post.

One of the first Apple PowerBooks. It had a black and white screen, weighed about 10 pounds. Don't remember CPU speed, but about 80Mb hard drive and 16Mb RAM. Floppy drive (pre-CD-ROM).

In the 80's I went to class for adult at night to learn programming ( basic )
at the time.
I remember we had to buy a few floppy diskettes for our courses.
The ''IT'' that was on place borrowed mine for a test and deleted it all in doing so...So I never passed my exam because he erased everything that was on it. True story.
May be He changed the course of my life.
I loved programming at that time and now I am null.

meh....... programming is okay if you want to sit and read lines of code all day long. Personally Java was enough for me. I couldnt take buleon strings and all that crap. Trust me Pete, prolly better off

I remember one of the test has to do with an atm machine.
Something like to do the '' polygramme'' I am sure it is not the exact term...Let's say you want to retrieve 20$ First line...If you want 10$ then it = yes if not then it=no and so on...
After an hour we all came up with something like two or three pages doing it and Bam...The teacher demonstrated it doing only like a few 5 or 6 lines. That was amazing.

NEC PC-9801E with 640k RAM w/ DOS.
Never figured out how to use it.
Next came my 286 (16mhz) 2mb ram, 40mb HDD w/ Windows 3.0

Didnt upgrade until 1998 when I got a K6-2 300mhz, 4gb HDD, 64mb RAM, S3-Virge GX with Voodoo 2 (12mb).
That was my first Quake comp.

Got out of it all now though, not spent money on my computer in ages. Currently running P4 3.2ghz, 1gb Ram, Radeon 9800 Pro 128, 2*WD 250GB SATA RAID in my main system.

commodore64 in 1984 (+/- a year), after that was a mac quadra605 with 8MB ram in about '95.

newest is athlon xp2800, 1024 corsairXMS, gf4... don't game much anymore so i don't feel the need to upgrade, though my laptop could use a boost.

Oh I thought we were talking PC's, in that case it was a Sinclair 48k. 1982-ish

That's pretty much how it went at my dads house. The 486 I mentioned is the first one that I myself bought. My brother had the C64 and my dad had the tandy 1000. He then got a 386. From there I got the 486, a P166, Athlon 750, Athlon 950, and now the 2200+. Fixing to upgrade again.

Runs Doom3 and Half Life 2 just fine @ 1024x768 with full detail just fine...think a decent upgrade overall.

Now, XP2500+, 2Gb of RAM, and a 6800GT. This fucking thing won't play Lunar Lander, though.

the operating system was "BASIC" and it had a whopping 16 colors displayed to my TV through an RF adapter.
because it had no such fancyness as hard drives and floppy disks... i saved my first program over a cassette tape of Europe's Final countdown album. (my racing game composed of colored blocks flying up the screen was far more important)

1981 - IBM PC 4.77 MHz Intel 8088 16 kb of memory, 5 1/2" floppy A: and a B: Drives, it ran on DOS.

2005 - AMD 3200 2.2ghz 1 gig of pc3200 ram 2 HDD's 120 gigs, it runs on Windows XP

i was 4 at the time, and the arkanoid master. 1986

Dunno what year it was exactly or what the exact specs were, but I remember that the first system I played games on was on my dad's XT machine. It had a monochrome green screen.

Later on we got a 286 with black/white screen and then a 386sx but the 286 was for me and my bro to play games on. Then my dad got a 486dx and my bro got the 386 and I got the 286 for myself.

In that fashion systems were going down that ladder. I had the 386 and the 486 and after that I think I bought my first own PC. It was an AMD K6-2 running at I think 300MHz. I did play Quake III on it at the end of it's life. It was equipped with a Voodoo 2 graphics card, which was simply awesome in those days.

After that I got an AMD Athlon at 700Mhz with a Viper II videocard, which was swapped for a GeForce 2 later on.

Finally I got my current system which is an AMD AthlonXP 2800+ with 1GB RAM and a Radeon 9800 Pro videocard. I bought that system in December 2003 I think. Haven't really upgraded anything since that day.

I had a TRS-80 by Tandy. Also had a Vic 20, Commodore 65, Apple IIe, PC 286, 386, 486. I also had pong, intellevision and Atari 2600. But the 1st PC I ever bought was an IBM Pentium 233MHz in 1994. What a bummer. It was fully upgraded when I bought it. I couldn't put any more RAM in it, couldn't get a better CPU and no spare PCI slots. I was pissed that I had spent $1200.00 on it and couldn't do anything more with it. I've built every PC myself since then.

I have meant to get(build) a new computer for the past 3 years.
Even tho I got a job (minimum wage/part time). I can not save mony for it. I just magicaly end up spending it.

Now, I am stuck betwen geting a PC or a Laptop. Pricerange of $1400. I want a laptop because it is mobile, and I can steal other peoples internet without paying for mine.
I can't really always use a PC because, I cant. Not the way i would like to use it. But then a laptop cant play all the leatest and greatest games. And is not a speed demon eather. And their HDD's are to slow.

Plus I dont feel like spending $2500+ on a laptop that will go absolite in a year :icon33: .

So shoukd I for now get a $500 laptop? No. I would be better off with a $1400 PC. Even to I could not always use it.
