Well according to them its not.. id suggest playing some real MMOs before making judgement..
Instancing off the entire game and only meeting people in town, is hardly "massive multiplayer"
its Diablo fucking 2 with an interactive lobby..
But you can play Diablo 2 alone though can't you?
GW is such as WoW and FFXI etc.. in that you can hardly do fuck all on your own after a certain level. You need to make alliances in game to really get anywhere. That's where the other hundreds of thousands of people playing it come in...
Um you can play "alone" technicly in EVERY Massive Online RPG.
Which isnt even my point.. Point is, in D2, you could have 4 people i think in a "group" for the world to go quest.. Same "logic" behind GW, you get 8 people, and thats it, you never meet anyone outside while questing, its like its your own little private server..
Which i see why that appeals to so many people, but thats not MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER, its a O-RPG with an interactive lobby..

So does guildwars, but there's no monthly fee to that.

Guildwars fucking owns.
I saw a friend of mine trying to login to a WoW server last weekend and he had to wait a fricking 15 minutes before he could even enter the server because it was FULL.
"Ok, that's no problem" I would think, "i'd just switch to and try another server". MWEEEP. Wrong. Turns out once you create character A on server Z, you can't play with character A on any server other than Z.
I would've sued the bastards for letting me pay 15 euros a month without giving me the option to play whenever I want to already.

Have to agree with this, however, if you look at the technical differences you'll see that the
only difference is that no one can come into your privately spawned world when you're questing.
The impact that this has on the game is relatively small IMO. The only advantage I see of being able to run into people while questing is that you can hook up with people who are outside of towns.
The other difference is that your quest can be spoiled by other players. This can be seen as a positive and negative thing. I see it as a negative thing. I've seen my friend get attacked by far stronger horde players without any reason, spoiling his progress on the quest he was trying to complete. Rather annoying IMO. Guildwars is hard enough without other players fucking around.
The
only I like from the "true" MMORPG type of world is that you can do massive player vs player wars, but Guildwars has a special PvP element where you can do deatchmatches and stuff like that, which is awesome as well and very well executed in GW.
