7/10 - actually pretty good.
minus 5 for not just sampling richard burton, plus 2 for the tripod's bwaar-trumpet.

morgan freeman keeps his mouth shut for most of it. which is good, because i'm sick to fucking death of the sound of his voice.

the tripods make a brilliant, industrial farting noise just before they started kicking ass.

few extra-daft bits but on the whole, a decent enough waste of a couple of hours.

Battlefield Earth - 20/10

Without a doubt the most incredibly awesome movie ever made. If I saw it in theatres I probably would have walked out, but watching it on DVD with friends, you realize how supremely tongue-in-cheek it is and marvel at the fact that any studio, after looking at the script, was willing to spend millions of dollars on it. It also has some of the best lines in existence, such as "Crap-lousy ceiling!" when Travolta accidentally hits his head, and "If man-animal prefers his rat uncooked, that just makes it all the easier."

I have never before seen something which combines such awesome greatness with such abysmal awfulness. This is the ideal to which other entertaining B-movies -- e.g., "Crocodile II: Death Swamp", "Alien Apocalypse", and anything with Dean Caine in it -- aspire.

the first half is fucking hillarious...a lot of it strikes true and right at home for me to, being and art student and all
after that it starts to take a slight dive be overall is still entertaining.

Yeah, it's great until you realize that John Revolta made that film as a tribute to L. Ron Hubbard and that it's meant to be a serious sci-fi epic.
He fucking RUINED a great sci-fi book, IMO.

When you've seen it a few times (haha) there can be no doubt that it is not a serious movie. There's just no way. (And I haven't read the book, but it would probably ruin the movie for me.)

Just bought tickets online for The DaVinci Code tonight...will report back later.....

It's supposed to be laughably terrible.
Makes sense when you consider how bad the book was.

I don't want to re-start this debate or anything, but the book was simply an excellent suspense read that happened to spark some debate on an interesting topic. No more, no less. That said, I don't have really high hopes for the film, but I certainly wouldn't miss it.....

Yup. It wasn't a very good book, because it read like a bad Hollywood suspense. Because of that, I don't have high hopes for the movie. Unfortunately I'll probably get dragged along with my girlfriend and sister-in-law who both are planning to go tonight.

(opening night at the Mall of America. Gee... that should be barrels of fun )

Last night I read the first 20 or so pages of The Da Vinci Code right before bed, and it's horribly written. Not quite "J.K. Rowling bad" -- but not far off.

Would recommend this one. Very interesting especially since it was based on real events.

just saw it. wouldnt say its laughably terrible; its ok even. but it drags on too long and the main chars seem to crack this code without ever having to think for longer than 30 secs.
quite odd for a code that has been kept secret for 2000 years

Dark Fury - Chronicles of riddick

it's animated, mostly drawn, some 3d rendered shots, takes 40 minutes or so, and its pretty cool, yet somehowly cheesy.

9 out of 10, for I respect that it has been made, and its fancy, tho it couldve been better.
