This has me really confused, as pictures of it seem to range from clear yellow to copper to light hazy orange. The one I had was a dull, opaque brown, like a cappuccino. Even descriptions on beeradvocate are all over the place. wtf?
The taste was interesting, but not very drinkable for a "summer beer" like they say. It definitely tastes like a mix between a belgian and a pale ale. Unfortunately, it lacks the real character of both. It certainly tasted good, but I'm not sure I'm convinced I'd want to buy another one. I'm usually in the mood for either a belgian OR an IPA. Not both at the same time. Luckily, it was fairly cheap.

Lame. As the bartender said, this is "light, like a Summit with half a glass of water poured in." Of course, he said this as he was handing me the glass. Thanks for telling me that AFTER I bought the beer.
Anyway, it wasn't that bad. Definitely drinkable, if slightly flavorless. Not remotely like a Scottish ale as the name suggests.

Schell's Hopfenmalz

Ahh... Schell's, one of the oldest US breweries and our own local, corporate, semi-famous, big brewer (they're currently responsible for Grain Belt Premium). Amazingly, they put out a really good beer. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I'd consider picking up a pack for a summer bbq crowd pleaser.

Just remembered the name of one other beer I had forgotten:

I've only had one other barleywine, and I didn't much care for it. This, on the other hand, was great. Heavy, fruity, slightly sour. The bartender tried to steer me to something else (figured I didn't really want a barleywine), and the beeradvocate.com folks don't seem to care too much for it... but it was just what I was in the mood for. The 11% abv probably wasn't a great choice for my third beer of the night, but it just meant I was "charming" the rest of the evening.

had a Flying Dog "Double Dog" last night. it's like the dogfish head 120min... honestly, it's too strong. 11%ABV and an intense flavor. no thx. more novelty than beer, i'd suggest skipping it.

Giving New Belgium Ranger IPA a try. Very similar to Stone's IPA but slightly more subdued. Even if you don't like New Belgium give this a try. I think it's one their best offerings. Very good IMO.

Grand Teton Sheep Eater Scotch Ale
A very nice scotch ale.
Sweet and caramely, with just enough of an earthy, peaty taste to balance it out. MAYBE just a little too sweet, at least for a sunny, hot day.

Bell's Two Hearted IPA
This remains one of my favorite IPAs. Can't go wrong with this.

LONDON (AFP) – The strongest and most expensive beer ever created sold out within hours Friday, a Scottish brewery said, as they courted controversy by packaging the bottles inside the bodies of stuffed animals.

BrewDog, the self-described maverick brewery, presented the beer -- which contains a record 55 percent alcohol -- inside the bodies of dead squirrels and stoats.

Animal rights activists rushed to condemn the stunt.

"It's pointless and it's very negative to use dead animals when we should be celebrating live animals," Advocates for Animals policy director Libby Anderson told BBC Scotland.

"This seems to be a perverse idea."

BrewDog said the limited edition Belgian ale -- made with juniper berries and dubbed "The End of History" -- was also the costliest beer ever sold.

The squirrel bottles cost 700 pounds (1,000 dollars, 840 euros) each and the seven stoat bottles went for 500 pounds a pop.

All sold out within four hours of going on sale, BrewDog managing director James Watt told AFP.

Watt said the controversial drink was the last in a line of experimental brews, explaining: "For the final installment in the strong beer series, we wanted to create something epic, something monumental."

He said there were no plans to come up with a beer to beat this record, insisting: "We're quite happy at 55 percent."

As for the taste, Watt described "The End of History" as a "complex" beer with a multitude of flavours including honey, mint and cinnamon.

He recommended sipping the drink "much like you would a malt whiskey", served up in a spirit glass rather than a pint glass.

I'm drinking Lagunitas Wilco Tango Foxtrot Ale right now. It's decent. Imagine having a great malty brown ale and dropping a shot of vodka into it. That's what this tastes like.

Heh... I just had a Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale today. Tasty. A nice amount of fruity hops, and less bitter aftertaste.

had a 512 IPA on Saturday... pretty good offering from a local (Austin) microbrewery. a bit sweeter up front than Stone or Dogfish Head, but still a bitter hop finish.
also it was $3.50 for a pint at Pour House.

tastes good when i put it in my mouth.
