Yeah, maybe a bit jealous.
Reaching a point where you can just coast through life, like a useless imbecile, where your actions and spelling don't even matter any more, must be pretty sweet.

The closer to launch day we get, the less appealing these new consoles are looking. Every game I'm interested in is coming out on PC as well as PS4/XBoner, and the exclusive titles aren't worth a whole new console. At first I was stoked to get a next gen console, now I'm stoked to have an extra $400 in my pocket for a new video card.
I currently have 2 GeForce GTX 560 Ti's in my rig, though, so I may hold off...

Just got an email that we're on the pre-order list for the BF4 bundle. My son's going to freak out Christmas morning.

Hopefully he doesn't pick up a gun and go on a murderous rampage
In other news I've binned my order off as Driveclub and Watchdogs were my reason for buying one in the first place. BF4 and COD Ghosts can suck my lefticle.

What I'm seeing from the videos is that PC > PS4 > XBoner, which comes as no surprise. That being said, for "next-gen", I'm overall left a little underwhelmed. Back in high school I figured by 2013 we'd be playing games that looked like feature film CGI.

pc's owning b4 they are even released, is pretty pathetic.
get ready for another 4 year cycle of compromised PC games, and right after, another 4 years of completely laughable ports

Dunno when you were in high school, but I reckon you're about my age, so in all fairness, aren't next gen graphics approaching the level of graphics CGI movies had in those days?

No game I've seen yet looks close to as good as Jurassic Park.

Jurassic Park was 1993, and I was in high school from '98 to '02. Plus, that movie used a lot of combinations of CGI, animatronics and stop-motion. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was 2001. It was an infinitely crappier movie, but better CGI than Jurassic Park's few fully-CGI scenes, and still better than what we get from cutscenes in games nowadays.

In defense of next-gen, so far all we've seen are comparisons of games that were built for current-gen and ported to next-gen. Of course they aren't gaining much by simply dropping them onto a faster rasterizer.
I still agree with
the point that Carmack made about coming up against what is essentially Moore's Law in graphics. The previous generation advanced to the point where brute force alone wasn't going to give us huge leaps in quality and wow factor.
What I'm hoping we get out of next-gen is the spare CPU cycles for more advanced features and game logic. Better sim side of things to go along with the crisper graphics.

You go right ahead and keep hoping that...all the way to your grave. It'll never happen. Ever.
Never in the history of video games has there ever been a management meeting where someone heard the revelation that there is "loads of overhead before we hit target FPS" and tried to stop the onslaught of cramming in more stuff. It has NEVER happened. They don't stop cramming in more stuff UNTIL they hit the FPS target, not before. Some of that stuff they cram in might be the "advanced features and game logic" you wanted but it'll be dropped in favor of pretty graphics and more cowbell if the devs are forced to pick one over the other.
Why do people still have these quaint notions of video game development? Why is it impossible to convince people it's a business and will always be run like one?

You're saying games like GTA V and Assassin's Creed Black Flag could have been pulled off without sacrificing anything but polygon count on the PS2? I'm not saying they will stop focusing on graphics over content but the extra power allows for grander designs from the start. The world can be more interactive and dynamic. Simulations can have more depth. More little details can be pulled in.
